G749 302 Crate Engine
Found a minute to open the crate and check over the rebuilt 302. The tags say about 30 years and 2 months ago, someone in eastern Canada, maybe with a French accent, was in a hurry to get this engine ready for my Deuce.
It's a privilege to have a good host like Steel...
....and once you get them lubed.... a little squeeze with some needle nose pliers or a spread with a tiny screw driver will get the spacing on the blunt end of the slider re-set for a smooth pull. They tend to widen out and the proper spacing improves mileage...
M207
Here is one pic in the back and a photo of the passenger side, box front with something missing.
Another picture of the spring pack where a family of Robins will hang out until they're ready to leave...... then we can move the truck.
Steel Soldiers think of the MVironment too!
G749 Preservation
I haven't spent a lot of time with the 207 yet but SuperDave says it does not have battery warming pans. It does have the perfection heater, intact. There's another heater on the box and the back is still full of parts so I'm not sure what kind of condition it's in. There is...
M207 cdn 1954
Finally had the chance to look at the new trucks and do some prep for transportation.
I thought I was buying an M220 but it turns out to be a rare M207 with a house on the back. Both gas heaters are still on the truck and the box is mostly untouched. It was going to be used as an...
MV selection
Tough to choose which pics to show but here are a few more shots of a perfect Iltis with a little more than 500k on the gauge and the 8 ton Bedford. The jet engine was a P&W J-57 possibly out of a Voodoo.
Following the Iltis down the highway was like following a go-cart but they...
M1010 adventures
Hard to believe this lady is 80 the way she climbed all over the trucks and Iltis.
A couple of hi-lights with an 8 ton Bedford, Ferret, dedicated cars, trucks, bikes and of course the getting closer to original looking M1010.
We took a ride and the 1010 decided 300 miles was just right. Left the yard with 36490km on the odo and returned with just under 37000km. Long trip for the jeeps but our nose gunner ran a near flawless lead down the 110kph highway at 80kph. We ran an open convoy, widening our 3 second gap at...
Check you studs and your nuts
Seemed like the right thread to bump for a weekly safety blurb. The OP had everyone in his thoughts when he posted this.
We just did a rim and tire swap on the M1010 and took the time to inspect each stud. Good advice! We just checked the wheels after 50+ miles of...
Parking Brake Light Switch
Here are a few photos of what was done on an early deuce around 1981 to light up the P brake. I'm uncertain it was done to meet regulation but do know my truck was registered commercially in 81' by the PO, so it makes sense. Real simple button switch on a block...
Here's the worst results from a hot brake drum on our series of deuce http://www.steelsoldiers.com/showthread.php?87648-Catastrophic-parking-brake-failure
It's a different deuce but the damage can be the same.
The Previous Owner of my deuce wired a simple button switch under the brake...
Thanks Dr. Recovery . I need to sleep with the CUCV TM's more often. The M135 manuals seem like comic books compared to the 1010 manuals but I'm learnin', appreciate the help.
I agree on the look and both of our 1010's look schmokin' hot.
1986 m1010 1956 m135
Found a few minutes to road test the trucks so my kid and I did our first convoy together. Stopped at the park where we both grew up. Just a drive, yet one of my life's most memorable events.
The latest generation love their tuner cars and keeping the interest in...
TM Ring wheel clamping
Here are two pics from the TM's, one showing the 'Ring Wheel Clamping" as #2 and one pic without it.
Both pics are front hub so I'm just checking if anyone else runs without the ring, it's purpose and if it's for a specific truck.
Thought I might find more info in TM10...
Original M1010 Rims
With our first display coming up this weekend I decided a great way to show some respect, is to listen and go original.
There should be about 10 of us for the 90 mile convoy in our second year for Veterans Voices of Canada, which is more important than anything...
Really dig'n the pictures. The changes made to that beast are tough to see sometimes but if I hold up the lap-top and lay on the floor, it's like I'm there.
With so many fluid holding parts on the G749's it's not surprising seeing the drips. What is surprising is how washing, re-torquing and...
