Thanks for the explanation. Looking at the first pic, I could not see any special plates, looked like any old part of the wing. Hence the remark.
Still great stuff though :D, and a swell job
The truck is standing in the Netherlands, was bought somewhere between 1997 and 2000 at a surpus auction from the Nato support depot in Ter Apel!
Was registered to the 368 Batallion Engeneers, but I don't think they ever actively used it.
Sounds like I mean the vent panels, although I cold not find them under that name in the manuals.
You probably have an M809 series truck. There, it is definitely possible. With the M39, I don't see how it can be done quick. I count well over 10 normal bolts linking it to the main fender and...
Both old gaskets were off and the housing cleaned to remove remenants of the old gaskets. We actually thought about replacing the old ones, but one was split and the other actually now was too big to fit properly in the base. Top one same story, and whhen 20 liter oil goes out throug the top...
What's the proper name for those feder parts or side panels that are below the fender level and run from the chassis to the fender, with those airslits in it. protecting the engine compartment?
Read somewhere and saw a video on a 800 series, that for easy access, you can quite easy remove...
Yep, its an LSD-465 A1.
What is a " square section o-ring"? This one was a fraction thinner and smaller than the original one. If you put it in the base, you can move it around about a milimeter. I oiled it, put it as much centered as possible, put the house on it, pushed down, and then turned...
It needs the oil change because it did not have one for over 13 years and I start use it, trying to keep the thing alive and healthy. Once I have papers, I will start use it seriously.
As to the farm, this is a nice romantic small dutch farm, the grass lands starts right behind the barn...
Problem is, the truck is standing on grass next to a farm in a little village. I am not allowed to drive the truck on road and there is no nice long land road where nobody comes to do it anyway. So I have to improvise
While idling a bit, the engine in a short time suddenly threw out almost all oil without me noticing it. Turned out the starter had been running as well all the time due to a stuck starter button, and I sprang an air leak.
That’s the short version.
Long version. We changed oil...
Search threads throw up too much answers.
I want to safely raise all wheels of the ground to do some warming up of the drive train for oil change, do some repair and maintenance, check brakes etc.
Front is clear but what is the best place for a jack or support thing at the rear? Two railroad...
Great pics, could do with the stuff.
Seems to me though that those jacks are pushing at a very small piece of wing without any protection under it. Would not want that on my plane.
So there's still hope for me to pick something up from GL if I ever make it over to the US again with engouh money (which I never managed  ). Love to have an M-37 as my daily driver in the USA to join some parades next year (or just for the heck of it)
Big chance these previous guys just broke the old steering house and somehow lashed another into it. The mechanic is not bad, just don't see him as a type looking for old TMs to adjust things properly. For them, initially it earned its money, in later years it was just a utility thing standing...
We do?
Lots, especially if they have MVs and know their way around them
And welcome as well, it's a usefull site to know, and funny at times as well ;-).
If all goes to plan, tomorrow I finally can start work on my power steering problems. Thanks for all comments so far, I will take them with me.
Does anybody has a detailed blow-up from the insides of the components? The TM...35 manual has lousy pictures of everything, the other manuals only...
Mostly, the chassis number = registration number = VIN number is mentioned on the ID tags on the dashboard but also stamped into the chassis. We looked for the number on the chassis of my 1973 M51A2 but could not find it. Any idea where this is located?
It is important, if the DoT cannot find...
:idea: Good one. That's the way I will go then as well. Interrupt the supply at the starter already.
I will use a two-wire cable in my case though. The one wire will feed the key switch from the starter, the second wire will go back and reconnect the original master switch cable close to...
