    wieght of dump unit

Does anybody know how much the dump unit weighs? I am talking about dump bed with sub-frame and hydraulics all together. The M51A2 weighs in at 21,986 lbs, the M52A2 at 18,560 The M52A2 fifth wheel assembly and some other hardware probably weigh in at about 550 to 600 Lbs. So I assume the...

    Daughter's M1009 will not start....any suggestions?

Maybe there were several things together. My daily car (European Citroen Xantia) is known for one problem: bad grounding. You get just enough juice to let the lights go on (and your testing meter to show that you have juice), but when you put a heavy load on it, it fails to deliver. Bottem...

    PTO description for dump truck

I think so on both counts, thanks for the pictures by the way. Disconnecting the slip yoke might be easy, while driving out from underneath it. Would not want to try back up into them, so flangs is the way to go, or just take apart the U-joint yokes each time.

    PTO description for dump truck

Not really. Trying to find out the best way to temporarily and quickly disconnect the pump propeller shaft on the PTO side, so that the dump bed can be removed and replaced at will. Thought PTO's normally have flanges which you can quickly loosen, but here it looks it is different (and the truck...

    PTO description for dump truck

Floatingly saw something coming by in a TM that the PTO for the M51A2 W/W has a special section, since it has a forward - winch - and backward - dump pump - propeller shaft. Can find back the stuff about disconnecting the dump pum side, but for the life of me, cannot find back details or...

    Traction: Super Singles or Duals?

I will have to get two newer (used) front tires (11.00 x 20). Commerce not only had loads of the standard US ndt tires, but also other European Nato tires including Michelin XL, Goodyear, and another special Nato type I don't remember seeying a manifacturing name of. Which would be better as a...

    Split brake system

Jesusgatos, do you refer to the diagonal braking set-up mentioned in Jaxsof's post? Actually, if I remember my lessons well, this is the way its done on cars, at least was done so on European cars in the 70s and 80s. It's anything but asemetric. Well, in a way it is, but under normal...

    Old types still at auctions?

Maybe we should make a poll asking people what was their oldest vehicle bought through GL, might be fun reading. Even simpler geting the winnner. Ranchhopper, your truck was 57 years old when you bought it at GL. Anybody can beat that?

We did some work finding the genealogy of one of our friends from there, and later looked over their place and the place their ancestores put their stake for a homestead. This is in the Wilson KA area. So we got interested, dug a bit into the history of settlers on the Great Plains and drove...

    POLL: Are YOU a VOTER ? ? ?

It's late here, so it took me a bit to see the underlined greencard in my post quote. Had not thought of that. Can't they vote at all, or only local (I can vote locally, but nothing regional or national).

    Old types still at auctions?

Training on the older versions I can understand, at least for the 101 class in driving. Stupid, but understandable. I was actually surprised to see late 1960s trucks in the auctions, this is even weirder. That truck almost should be auctioned through Sotheby as antique, not through GL as...

    POLL: Are YOU a VOTER ? ? ?

Can't vote since I am a Dutchman living in the Czech Republic :-| aua Would vote if I was a US citizen or greencard holder.

    Old types still at auctions?

Just curious. I looked at some GL auctions, and noticed they still occasionally sell-off over 40 year old trucks. Was there never a phase-out of ALL these trucks, to be replaced by more current ones? Like, we will replace the 5x and 8xx series by the 9xx series over the next 5 years, so in the...

    Split brake system

Sounds like an interesting idea (from October 8, 2009, a year ago) but did not see any reply on it. Since the thread is jumpstarted again, tought I bump this as well. Any thoughts on this or sombody did this?

5 Ton transmission 3rd gear problem

Come on guys and galls, please don't make me more confused then I already am, just thought I had it figured out. :lost: I actually found a link explaining some of the modern and old designations for transmission oils (although the post itself may be a bit outdated) Another link states...

Actually, Kansas did not had that much trees an 150 odd years ago. Mind you, herds of a million or two heads of bisons helped keeping the vegtation down. Under the Homestead Act of 1862, in Kansas you actually could get two claims if you wanted, one normal and one tree lot, under condition you...

Converting a multifuel engine to straight diesel? Saw an add for trucks from the Kansas Forest Service (did not know they had forests there). They are talking about "Multifuel, converted to diesel only". How would you do that and what would be the + and - of such a conversion?

    dump truck with fifth wheel?

I once saw a system of how they fitted a swappable fifth wheel assembly on a truck. With some kind of click it in system, ready in a few minutes. Can not find the video back   aua Anyway, my concept for how this could work, after inspecting the truck more carefully, is...

5 ton dump truck adventure ready to start

I want to be able to tow something, and more important, I will be bringing the truck to the Czech Republic. So any official stuff has to be done in the beginning. The Groningen DoT people seem to be responsive (touch wood, fingers crossed etc) so I will try it.
