for sway make sure your load is more toward the front of the trailer not in the middle. more tongue weight helps prevent sway. Towed mine with a 16' car trailer the other week and it didn't sway at all on a bumper ball hitch.

When I did mine I used the factory Reverse light switch and don't recollect where I pulled power but I ran it so that my backup cam comes on when I hit reverse as well.
