I doubt any shop without military vehicle experience would know how to mount HMMWV tires, they would likely try using a tire machine, then laugh when told what they would actually need to do to dismount and mount HMMWV tires.
I am not sure why they are calling it the controller, in the civy world it was and is the glow plug controller, looks the same, uses the same round plug only in the civy world it very simply controls a relay connected to the glow plugs, I often wonder why nobody just reverts to that system...
If you remove the harness from the TCM and the light still is on in the run position then there is a short in wire 657A to ground is basically what it is saying.
Any time you disconnect the EESS box nothing will work, disconnecting the EESS was not mentioned in the trans supl. only the TSU
If you have a working trans light you should be able to go into the diag mode, if nothing else you will receive several number "12" codes, if not then you have ether a...
The larger the tire the faster it must turn before any miss-balance shows up, back in the day is was around 55MPH when we were running G-78-15" tires, for the 37" Humvee tire it is around 65-70 before it shows up, I would suspect on the HEMITT it would be much higher than 70mph so no imbalance...
They are not the end all, cure all.
If you have tires that are out of balance and even at times when you do not you will shake as they find the balance and that is dynamic so it constantly changes with speed, even at steady speeds there are times they just decide to "recalibrate" but not too...
You will have to mount your own tires as a tire machine cannot be used, if they try it will likely damage the rim.
I have never heard of a shop that will mount tires for the HMMWV.
I get mine balanced at Discount Tire as they have balancers with lifts to handle the heavy tires.
If you do not have a trans light then going into diag mode will not make any difference.
Unhook the batteries then remove the main harness connector at the TCM box, reconnect the batteries turn the run switch on (you should have the TSU disconnected while you are working on electrical issues)...
On an automatic transmission the "flywheel" is called a flex plate, you would need to drop the transmission to replace, rotate the engine slowly while inspecting the teeth on the flex plate.
First remove the dust cover and see what is going on, if you see something post some pics.
