There is no easy way short of buying a new axle or just buying 8 lug 16" rims and swapping over the traded tires. We have answers here but only CARNAC is clairvoyant.
Table 1-9.1 in TM 9-2320-289-10 shows the difference between the M1028A2 and M1028A3. Basically, your M1028A3 will be equipped with the New Process 208 and the -A2 will have the New Process 205. It should be noted that both were conversions of the M1028 and M1028A1.
I concur. There are many different lengths of slip/stub yokes. If yours is different than the guy that checks his, you might be wasting your money. If you want it done right, measure ujoint center to flat flange and take it to a driveline shop for adjustment.
I would think the weight of the steel would be about 75#. When dealing with a 5500# truck, 75# equally distributed above the CG might change the tipping point by an inch or so. One could strategically add 25# to each side of the frame rail and compensate for the cage if it was that critical...
