If it's a pickup, you can get a nice one from harbor freight. I have one bolted to the underside of mine and it was initially for a hitch haul but I've used it for plenty of small trailers without incident.

Did you flip the lever? It does fit cans and drums as they have the same thread. The lever squishes the rubber sealing it in the threads!

I would say it would work on the short term. I think it will give you some warning before it explodes.

Looking at the numbers on that joint, I'm guessing is a 1350 for a 3/4 or 1 ton. Spicer number for a 1350 joint is 5-178X and I see 178 in the part number.
