I don't know why the military hung onto the air over hydraulic crap, but whoever was responsible for it oughta be dragged out and shot! Air brakes are like a thousand times easier to maintain and operate, plus with maxi's on both rears, you know it's gonna stay where you parked it!
My M54 w/w turns easy moving or standing still. I wouldn't think the relatively small amount of weight of the winch would affect the steering one way or another.
My M880 318 acted like that. Turned out to be the ignition ecu on the left inner fender. I always thought they either worked or not but this one just got weaker as time went on. First noticeable at higher rpm's and heavier load.
Corn head grease is extremely thin. I don't know how well it stands up to extreme pressure applications, but the corn head row unit gear boxes it was designed for take a beating and they're not really low speed.
Wreckerman, you beat me to it! All the crap laid down by politicians nationwide has to go somewhere.
Actually those are all farmer mods. Ag equipment manufacturers make a model specificaly designed for truck mounting. Really destroys the truck though.
Looks like it's in pretty good shape! The stock transfercase was a single speed unit. Low range was in the hydramatic transmission. I don't know how well it would stand up to the extra torque, but a t-case from a WWII CCKW would give you low range again. Two separate rear drivelines can be a pain!
Welcome, and yeah this is a pretty good site. A bunch of info, manuals, and generally helpful people. It's been around a long time and hopefully stays that way!
Just an old timer adding his two cents here. I was there when rtv sealant came out and we learned early on that you never under any circumstances, use rtv with a gasket, peroid. The rtv sealant will lock into the gasket and split it out while tightening. Either use a gasket OR rtv sealant, not...
Just picked up my M105 trailer at Ft McCoy today and wanted to say that Mike couldn't have been more helpfull in directing me in there and Seth (hope that was his name) did a great job of loading! 20 min. from driving in the gate to ready chain up. No hassle, no damage, and friendly besides! GL...
If, by chance, it's an M52a1, it will have a mack diesel instead of the "awesome" multifuel. If that's the case, I'll take it off your hands for a small fee.[thumbzup]
