They believe the specified torque rating of a transmission, without really understanding the ratings. 2 problems with that- 1. Transmissions are severely underrated. 2. The torque rating applies to what the transmission could handle if there was NO slippage at all. In other words, if the wheels...
Thanks all! greenjeepster- no more throttle issues. I forgot to mention that in the story...not long after stopping and adding brake fluid the throttle started sticking part open. Nothing dangerous, I was just careful until we stopped to check out another Deuce for sale. The throttle lock cable...
I know about 6 people with Duramax's, 5 of them have been in the shop for major issues. The last is used by a contractor who's only had it several months and pulls a small trailer. By major issues, I mean turbos, injectors, oiling issues (check into the #8 cam bearing that likes to spin and...
:ditto: My Ft. Knox had all fluids except brake fluid. But my N.J. (Bordentown) truck was completely empty, and even had the heater hoses unhooked (heater was gone before being listed by GL). I'm sure glad we checked the fluids before trying to start it!

I got close to 10mpg on my way home. I think the worse tank was just under 9mpg, mostly uphill driving. It cost me just over $300 to drive 1100 miles, not counting tolls. If everything goes well, driving would be cheap. If something goes wrong, it could get expensive quick. I won't try to talk...
That was going to be my suggestion. The B-series is as simple as it gets, you can even use a cable to operate the fuel shutoff just like a multifuel if you want. For a Duramax, plan on lots of electronics, including trying to install a vehicle speed sensor somewhere. You also cut the reliability...
I was under the impression that as long as you have the invoice, you can pick up your truck. Keep in mind the 14-day limit...I was told that still applies.

Good luck, I just did an 1100 mile recovery last week with a truck in unknown running condition (before I got there). It ended up just needing batteries and brake fluid. I'll cross my fingers that your recovery is just as easy!
Jim
Thanks! As long as it was, that was actually the condensed version. It could have been at least 4x longer! It was an awesome trip, and I'm surprised that at no point was I anxious to get home. I could have doubled the trip and been happy. The only limiting factor was funds, which were very low...
Its a bit of a pain to modify all of my pics to meet the SS size restrictions, so most can be found on my Photobucket account The rest of this is a modified version of a post I made on the Jeep forum I belong to, so please excuse me if I didn't get it completely edited and parts don't make...
I agree with the above post, with one exception: if you like to be different, or really want a particular design aspect of the multifuel (like the ability to adjust to a variety of fuels, and use whatever is on hand).
I've done things that don't make sense on the outside, but I had my own...
Scuffy, You will want 2 u-joints and a slip joint, just like any typical driveshaft. Becuase nothing is really moving far (don't need to account for axle travel, for example) you don't need a long shaft. You can do what I was going to do (also using a divorced 205), which is just have the 2...
The case is cast iron. It should NOT be welded to. This transmission was designed to "hang" from the back of the engine with no mounts. The engine is mounted with the main mount at the flywheel adapter (bellhousing area) with a supporting mount at the front of the engine. The transmission just...
O.K., for the ones who apparently missed the link I previously provided:
Limited Slip Differentials, Posi-Traction (Posi, Posis)
Limited Slip and positraction (posi) differentials are designed to "limit" the tendency of open differential to send power to a wheel that lacks...
Actually he is correct. Posi, short for Positraction, is the name GM gave to their limited-slips back in the 60's. Its just a name brand for a limited-slip differential. It would be like calling any locker a Detroit. There is a big difference between a locker and a limited slip though. Limited...
I called today and got an appt. to do my other recovery in Bordentown, NJ tomorrow. Hopefully it will go smoothly. The Knox truck runs awesome, my wife even drove it yesterday!
Jim
Just keep in mind the high maintenance of ARBs. They usually work great, but do have issues. I 'wheel with several people with them, and they are always pulling them apart for one reason or another. Nice for the selectable locker, but complex and high maintenance.
Detroits are install and...
