    Compliance with DOT???

Exactly correct. The first time I found out about NH's 10k limits was when a friend went to register an old rollback truck I sold him, originally with a 12k GVW, but he registed it for 9999 since he was just going to haul his little Kubota tractor with it. But once stopped by the DOT, he was...

    Compliance with DOT???

My state (N.H.) has started slowly enforcing a law on the books which requires ANY vehicle over 10k lbs. to have the owner's name and address on the door, carry road flares & fire extinguisher, driver must have medical card, etc. This applies even to regular 1-ton pickups! Right now they are...

CUCV vs excursion, F350, or other pick up for bug out and snow vehicle.

There are fuel trailers on GL from time to time. Or you can make up your own for emergency situations using a heating oil tank and M101 or M105 trailer. Jim

CUCV vs excursion, F350, or other pick up for bug out and snow vehicle.

Sounds like my Durango fits the bill for a decent BOV. Cummins 4bt, 5-speed (NV4500), 28-30 mpg, and when I installed the engine I wired it extremely simply. Every other system could go out, and I would still be able to run the starter and fuel shutoff. Worse case I'm running without gauges...no...

CUCV vs excursion, F350, or other pick up for bug out and snow vehicle.

Another vehicle to consider could possibly be an '89 to '98.5 Dodge with a Cummins and standard transmission. Early automatics had no electronics as well. No electronics for the engine to run except the starter and grid heater, and thats not necessary except in very cold weather, and even you...

    Xtreme 4X4 Deuce bobbed(Spike TV)

I really don't see a big issue about modifying the truck, since the actual rare parts will be saved. Unlike civilian vehicles with complete records of the VIN #'s and options, which require matching parts to be valuable, I don't think these trucks have much for records. Transfer the fire body to...

How much have you spent with GL?

Well my account shows around $5500, but some of that were my father's purchases when he didn't have an account. My actual purchases add up to around $3225. My father is easily way past $20k, but he has the money to play with. Jim

I wonder why they pulled all the m35a2s

I posted on the subject of price (either this thread or another), I doubt price is the issue. If they want to make more money off this stuff, streamline the bidding/approval process. More people would get on and bid, driving the prices up. The only reason the prices are as low as they are is...

Govt liquidations. M35A v. suburban, cucv, excursion, trailer need Bug out vehicle

Yup, do a search on here for "shelter camper" there have been several done. Seems pretty easy to do. If you are looking for more of a daily driver, look for one of the CUCVs with an ambulance body on the back. Not trying to turn you away from a Deuce, just want to make sure you check out all...

repower with a screming detroit or possible big cam cummins?

I'm a believer that the 3053 will handle the 3208 as well as it would handle a 5.9 Cummins, and there are plenty of those swapped into Deuces. The question is, why would you want to swap in an engine that is larger, weighs 900 lbs. more and stock for stock, barely puts out more power? Search the...

I wonder why they pulled all the m35a2s

I have thought the same thing, it would seem the reasons they supposedly pulled the A2s would also apply to A3s and 5-tons. But I really can't understand why they could possibly see an issue with the Deuces, I imagine they will most likely be back. In comparison, they aren't any different than...

Govt liquidations. M35A v. suburban, cucv, excursion, trailer need Bug out vehicle

From your questions, it seems like you are pretty new to military vehicles. Please excuse me if I'm wrong on that, but I'll answer as if you are pretty new. I'm not all that experienced myself, but my father is, and I've driven some of his, and am working on getting two Deuces myself. I've...

Slick cheap EGT Gauge w/probe (K-type)

If you get a good non-digital, such as the Isspros I use for my Cummins', you don't need any outside power to run them, only for the light bulb for night viewing. And I'm sure that bulb could be upgraded. There are other brands that don't require outside power as well. Jim

repower with a screming detroit or possible big cam cummins?

You are knocking the 3053a behind a 3208, which doesn't make a whole lot more torque than a HO 5.9 Cummins, (maybe less, depending on the setup) but you will put a trans rated for barely over half the GVW of the 3053a behind a healthy Cummins? Why not adapt the Cummins to the Spicer? You still...

repower with a screming detroit or possible big cam cummins?

Like I said...look for Iveco trucks. The trucks aren't worth anything in the U.S. because you can't buy even common parts for them. One of mine needed fuses replaced, I called every source I could come up with in the U.S. and no luck. I finally had to have an online friend ship some over from...

repower with a screming detroit or possible big cam cummins?

From everything I've seen, I've never seen a Ford with factory installed Cummins any smaller than an F600/F650. When doing research for my old boss, who wanted a Ford rollback with Cummins, nothing was available any smaller than F650. I think either an F450 or 550 would be great with a 5.9. Jim

    bobbed and lifted deuce

I think you were asking the OP, but since there was no reply yet I'll share my opinions. A bobbed Deuce steers much better than stock. Getting rid of the rearmost axle lets it turn much easier and tighter. If you move from NDTs to radials, combined with a bob, steering effort is also reduced...

repower with a screming detroit or possible big cam cummins?

The Deutz is a decent diesel, I'd put the 6 cyl. liquid-cooled on par with a 5.9 Cummins size, weight, and power wise (just an estimate from owning two). If you can find Iveco box trucks, they usually have the Deutz. I've bought two, both in decent shape. One was $1100 and had 39k miles on it...

repower with a screming detroit or possible big cam cummins?

Cummins 5.9 History An 85 International could have a couple different engines, usually their own (DT series) but some had 5.9 Cummins. The Cummins was somewhat popular in International school buses, which is probably the cheapest source for a 5.9/Allison combo. I'm no expert on the medium...
