Rinse 'till it runs clean then throw a few bottles of alcohol...the rubbing kind 8-)...into the drum, dump it out and you should be good to go. The alcohol will blend with the water and help remove it.
Tools, A duckbill hammer, a couple of tire irons and a bottle of water/dish soap.
It would be best to watch someone do it first, it is easier to see what is happening than tell you.

Could be the idle is set too low. I think there is a dashpot on the throttle that holds the throttle a bit off idle during decel. Someone else with more CUCV knowledge will chime in. Could also be dirty dieselgas filters. Service it and see what happens.
Yeah, don't even mess with trying to reuse the spindle or the hub. It will not be worth the damage you could do to yourself, others around you or the hobby in general. Just replace the thing. While you are there, rebuild/replace the wheel cylinder, just to be on the safe side...it got REAL hot...

:ditto:, with the exception of MY local place having them, get a few. OD Iron, Saturn, Memphis, White Owl, e-bay will have them. Try to steer away from the New Star ones....you will replace them in a hurry. Get NOS or silicone.
I think these trucks look good in MERDC, however, i'd leave it the way you got it. I'm kinda funny that way, I just like to try to preserve the history of the truck. If it came from Uncle Sugar in CARC tan, just re do it in the same. If it is a crappy paintjob, just give it a little TLC and...
