It's not so common for run numbers to differ by much any more, especially when they've cured. SRJeeper and I were talking about that with touch ups. At first, there's often a difference. After a couple of months, the difference often fades. My dad was an old time painter who taught me a few...
"...Steve, I would definitely change the rubber bushings first and see how it goes. Worse comes to worse the transfer case will still pop out and you'll have to replace the case with the one you bought. And if you go with just replacing the transfer case you're going to need the bushings...
Brings back fond memories of my Revell catalog with one of these towing a large artillery piece. Or was it a trailer mounted rocket?
Did anyone know you can spend > 30 mins looking at Revell models on Google that you built as a kid? Without finding the Snow Cat?
Steve
I wouldn't pretend to know enough about them to give advice on the truck. SS has plenty of those. But . . . I do know about the following in NJ. I'd go there 1st for the straight scoop.
Below are 3 good links for the NJ MVC.
Titles: State of New Jersey - Motor Vehicle Commission...
"...I know it looks bad using a truck..."
Naw. Just tweak the color. Spend a weekend with some camo rattle cans then sneak in behind a CUCV and the average spectator won't pay it a 2nd thought. Make use of the bed, too with a couple piles of faux-cannon balls or something.
The cannon...
"...No. You have to get to it from behind with the seat off..."
'Off' or 'out'? If 'out', then I have a reason to go to HF for that engine hoist.
Steve
It's worth noting that I'm going for restoration on those vehicles so finish and color are important. My 105 is industrial acrylic (Ben Moore P29). The Deuce wheels, steps, etc. are industrial alkyd (Ben Moore P24). The Deuce bed is porch and floor (for a satin finish, fairly flat.) The...
All depends on what you want for the final effect. You can repaint the whatsits out of the coarse sand mix before you start to lose traction because of the play sand's coarseness,
The bottom of the folded bumper step is the original military sand-in-paint. The bumper top and fender are the...
"...Has any one had any luck with putting that gripping material back on there fender tops and bumper. It's almost like a sand mixed into the paint..." Bluedeuce
Yeah. Try play sand mixed in paint. In my case, a color test mix of RustOleum.
Never took any photos to prove it works, but it...
I saw a neat 4 trumpet at Gilbert last year but:
- Too expensive
- Soft top
- Worried that blowing it would eliminate brakes at the wrong time.
Nice truck, WeaterMan
Steve
Interesting. We were talking at COMVEC about why the TCs pop out. The theory was offered that in part, it's because high range is up instead of down. If down, then the bulk of the shifts would, in effect, have the handle blocked and not allow it to have the play to wear. I actually thought...
"...You could also buy a $1.99 door bolt..." Bill W
Oh, that's slick! OTOH, it suggests an air of permanence that ain't gonna happen - and it's still $1.99 more than the rubber bungee I'm using now that I found beside the park on Memorial Day.
"...what have you got to lose......." G-Force
Thanks. You and Joanne are on the same page. Probably a couple hundred dollars in labor but I'd gain a clearer answer on the condition of the current TCase.
BTW, I found I can get the bushings from Clarke for about $75 for the set.
I'm wondering...
Questions 1st, explanation 2nd; TM highlighted below. I don't think this duplicates another thread.
- Does anyone know a NAPA or other civilian part # for transfer case bushings/mounts (12 & 19 in the TM)?
- Is there anything special about the bolts, nuts, and washers that go with them...
One thing that I'm convinced effects the CARC oblique reflectivity and makes it 'dead flat' is the sandy texture. I think somebody said that they got that with a fast-dry spray earlier on in the thread. I know that the painter who did my 105 ended up getting it inadvertantly with the BM...
After reading through a lot of the threads on transmission lubricants, I decided to use 80 - 90 from Pep Boys throughout the truck that also meets the specs. It's probably the same that most chains carry with different labels. That warm up pretty much disappeared as the weather warmed and now...
I won't be there on 6/30 but the club Pres will be along w/ others.
OTOH, I'll be tagging along w/ Art & his Deuce this Saturday to a public event on Rt 10 just east of Rt 202 near 287. If you'd like to shake hands, please drop me an email or pm. Art's a good guy to know. He's been a great...
