I like the idea of full-disc brakes and have plenty of air pressure to work them since Bendix has engineered in the ratios in designing the calipers on their OTR conversions. Rotors might take a little figuring out just to get the closest match to the mil. hub.
But everything I've researched...
Lead acid batteries aren't too particular about polarity. If you can draw the reversed battery down to dead again and recharge it the correct way you might find that it'll come back but it needs to be absolutely dead flat before you start the charging process. Hook up that battery alone and turn...
Ahh, envy is such a sad thing.
Damon, I think we need to add another item to the list of HEMTT accessories.
I'm seeing paper bibs like you'd get in a seafood restaurant; but with a picture of a HEMTT on them instead of a lobster.
Very impressive, Damon. Top notch workmanship!
Are you gonna be set up to haul the baby HEMTT around behind you; kinda like a Geo Metro being dragged along behind a Winnebago?
After the bolt cools, an extra trick that's worked well for me is to first tighten the bolt ever so slightly; just enough to get it started moving. That direction stacks the threads in their stronger direction. (Think of a coil spring when you turn it in the direction the coils wind).
FWIW; A lot of the later MVs are going independant. Even the A3 HEMTTs with the Pro-Pulse have an experimental independant front suspension set-up. Field trials conducted by actual troops usually highlight the bad ideas pretty fast.
Murphy's Law for Mechanics; the more pieces and parts in...
Mike, the best price I found was through our local ITTCannon supplier where we have a commercial account.
Bjorn, I'm running 14ga wire so the pins have to accept that and the harnesses will feed lights and engine controls. I figure MS-3100's for the bulkhead and MS-3106's for the harness side...
The baby HEMTT has such specialized cab to chassis wiring harness connectors that I want to go with a much more common Cannon plug arrangement. Anybody out there have any wiring harnesses that are mostly frayed wire but with good ends? I need two firewall bulkead connectors and their companion...
You could divide by events; shows, meets, pulls, or bog running. OR by MV type; so we could each fast forward to our own particular favorite vehicle(s).
That IS small Bjorn. To get all of some of the bigger ones completely in the frame, thay have to be photographed from earth orbit... and have been mistaken for aircraft hangers, or small european countries.
Strange set-up. I've seen a video off of a link from one of the Tatra sites and the front and rear axles steer while the center two do not. Makes for tight cornering but I can imagine 'at-speed' it may handle a little funny.
What kind of switch are we talking about? The standard three-lever or something different? Your comment about hearing a faint click makes me think there's a short that's tripping a circuit breaker. Fastest way to check it is by swapping out the light switch and see if another does the same...
TBs not withstanding-- a lot of stuff gets done in the field because it works, not because some engineer in a lab-perfect environment says this is the way it should be. Probably 90% of my MVs have embodied one premier rule of Murphy's Laws of Combat; If it's stupid but it works, it isn't stupid...
Point well made Kenny.
This is the same reason I try to discourage people going to LOGSA and clicking on the "Yeah, I'm with the government" button so that they can access the TMs there. I guarantee, the LOGSA people have NO (read NO) sense of humor and WILL start the ball rolling on all kinds...
OK, here goes... hope I understand your question correctly.
In my pile o' parts, I have side racks with wood slats and the top slat attaches with FOUR bolts, to a plate at the top of each upright post. The seat slats attach with TWO bolts that go through the seat support at each position (no...
The 406s and the 416s are both pretty slow; my 416 was good for about mid to high 40s. You're also talking closed drive-lines and lots of steps to otherwise simple tasks; i.e. Clutch job involves dropping the rear axle down and back before you can even start thinking about getting at the...
