    Towing 30k lbs?

Only if your trailer has good brakes. Best if they are air w/spring brakes, as your truck is designed to work with them. If so, install a "Johnny bar" to be able to use them without pedal. That really helps in some cases like fishtailing or loading/unloading. If not, there are cylinders...

    Light switch shutting down truck!?

Emery cloth is not good to use with contacts, the residue can lead to intermittant shorts and increased contact wear. In the field, plain old fine sandpaper is better. A dollar bill pulled thru the contacts with light pressure on them is actually a good cleaner. The best is a diamond...

    Wiring on my '52

Your schematic shows the early turnsignal system with a control box. Mostly unreliable, parts are unobtainium, and requires a special signal switch. The second series uses the same signal handle and flasher unit found on new tacticals (a lot easier to) source. I keep my trucks long enough...

I thought the technique of splicing the rail occasionally with a diagonal cut was pretty neat. Sort of a slip-joint.

UP's ribbons appear to be around a mile long, dispensed from a special consist paying them out as they go along. With 10 or so layers of rail on those special cars, there has to be a lot of cornering stresses bending all that as it rolls around corners... Automated machines pull up the old...
