Best if they are air w/spring brakes, as your truck is designed to work with them.
If so, install a "Johnny bar" to be able to use them without pedal. That really helps in some cases like fishtailing or loading/unloading.
If not, there are cylinders...
Emery cloth is not good to use with contacts, the residue can lead to intermittant shorts and increased contact wear.
In the field, plain old fine sandpaper is better. A dollar bill pulled thru the contacts with light pressure on them is actually a good cleaner. The best is a diamond...
Your schematic shows the early turnsignal system with a control box. Mostly unreliable, parts are unobtainium, and requires a special signal switch.
The second series uses the same signal handle and flasher unit found on new tacticals (a lot easier to) source.
