    M1123 possible electrical fire hazard?

Yep. Probably an upgrade via AMGeneral, thru the using groups. D

    Bleeding the HEMTT fuel system

Detroits self-prime easily. Are you sure you got a good seal on the bowl gasket? Most Jimmys use two steel canister or spin-on filters, primary B4 the transfer pump, secondary after. After checking the gasket, I'd open the fuel link into the head and crank. DG

A tip: If you unplug the Bendix connector (the one with wires), all power to the dashboard is disconnected. DG

Definitive conclusions - Which rear axle is best to disable and how?

In your tire search, don't forget the similar-vintage 5-tons as a source. The current feeling is to go with 6 Supers. Those that do will usually have 10 or 11 mounted 11.00-20's. One could make a good deal, swap the 10-bolts for 6's, and be happy. It all depends on where you're looking...

    Engine oil

Synthetic blends, such as the Rotella offering are the deal. Wear characteristics are excellent, and the price point is good. You may never run an engine long enough to see it's end of life, but from my personal experience in Mercedes Turbodiesels it has really made a difference in wear...

    Prc77 problems

Squelch is an electronic "hiss stopper" used on FM radios. Basic FM receivers will deliver this hiss between stations without squelch, or sometimes known as muting in HI-FI receivers. If there is no signal, it will mute the radio. This is called "Old Squelch" in military commo parlance. New...

    New headlight switch smoking

Yep, the regular Mil-Spec turn signal switches are of a really pis-poor design. They will barely handle the load of just the onboard 4 lamps. Add a trailer with increased load, or an intermittent short, and the switch contacts are toast long before the internal breaker in the master light...

    New headlight switch smoking

A three-lever switch is a sealed, waterproof unit. If there is enough pressure built up inside to get smoke past the O-ring in the crimped together housing I'm amazed. I've seen them almost melt from shorts on certain circuits, even with the internal breaker. DG

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

Not that I did that this week, but I did find this old photo today. The old girl is hauling panels of 1" thick Maple flooring panels I cut from the floor of a remodeled Scottsdale gym. I did 4 loads like this, if anyone needs 60-year old tongue & groove... Each one weighs in @ 1,500lbs. DG

    What engine can i use?

Years ago in Yuma, Az, an auomotive engineer with numerous patents with GM designed repower packages for the Jimmys. His choice was the Caddy 501, a turbo 400, and a lower first gearset. The 211's were stretched out, a 20 foot steel box added, and they were used in muddy field harvesting...

    Prc77 problems

You might have a bad mic or connector on it. Also, you may not be generating the squelch tone. Have them set their radio to "old" squelch and try that. DG

    What engine can i use?

I've seen an M35 with a 350 Chevy & the original gasser 5-speed at the Modesto Big Bear rally a few years ago. It went down the road just fine with a good load of stuff he bought at the rally. Probably the cheapest route to a repower out there... And...gas is cheaper than Diesel everywhere. DG
