That weight rating also included a loaded trailer in tow, on a grade around some 30%.
Of course in combat service that was usually doubled or tripled, especially for cargo trucks. Whatever fit, went.

When I was younger, older Proving Ground mechanics told me a little oil in the air tanks wasn't a bad deal, as the trucks of the day didn't have air dryers and the oil helped keep the rust down without hurting anything.
I get a tablespoon or so per day from the air tank drain when driving it.

Not an 809, rather my M54A1.
The Mack engine has a gear drive hydraulic pump, mounted inline with the Bosch injection pump on the driver's side.
Bearing, Belt & Chain in Phoenix had what I needed.
Rocks in the chain? I don't think that will ever happen with it, and if it did I'd just nudge...
