Pretty desirable rim. They come on the HEMTTs and people pay big bucks for them. You might look into a set of 10:00X20 Budd wheels. Truck wreckers call them "garbage truck wheels" 'cause most refuse trucks run them. They run around $75.00 ea and wouldn't be such a sacrifice to re-center. Sell...
I'm thinking 1/2" chains. The guys that run the big drop neck trailers are usually heavy haulers and everything on-board is to secure loads that would turn a lot of trailers into swaybacks. Cotter pin would look better inserted from the top down and as for the toolbox lid... don't know the DOT...
Thermostat is inside the upper radiator hose connection on the head. Cast housing held on by two (I think) bolts. Look in the tech section for the deuce TM 9-2320-209-20P manual; under "cooling system", "water manifold, heaters, thermostat housing and gasket" there's a picture breakdown.
There's...
Based on the known relative sizes of the rear tie-down shackles, marker light lenses and tail lights I'd say that the tiedowns are a tad beefier than 3/8". Pulled back against the wheel well rise of the Murray gives it about 20" tall wheel chocks. Spring brakes would be set; eight 1600X20s...
Fresh radiator hoses? Old ones may collapse or some of the interior may delaminate, fold inward and cause a restriction. Radiator in need of a cleanout? Having them rodded and boiled out works wonders.
I'm thinking ya done good. That looks pretty good inside.
Maybe it was just excess; or demilled towards quitting time on a Friday when the last six or seven just got shoved into a bin with the rest of them to clear the work bench.
A lot of the problems with multifuelers is having a bunch of green troops that don't have to pay for their own repairs or explain to daddy why the rigs come back in the shape they're in. A lot of different drivers, all bent on seeing just what the deuce will do and not owning the vehicle makes...
Look into injection pump timing and maybe bigger injectors before you throw the multifueler away. Like I said, little changes make big differences with diesels.
They like lots of cool clean air so maybe an air cleaner off of a 5 ton and an intercooler are future mods to consider. They don't like...
You're right. They'd disassemble to the point they needed to be then pour everything into a scrap bin. Probably disconnected to earmark as one they were getting rid of to keep from having to disassemble to check. Working=keeper, doesn't work=discard.
Demilled usually refers to intentionally damaged at the same points (cut, crushed, incinerated, shredded, otherwise destroyed) so that it can not be restored to a usuable condition for it's original purpose. By demilling specific parts the idea is to keep anyone from finding a bunch of surplus...
De-tuning give less power but longer engine life. Locomotives where I used to work have Detroit 20V645s and 710s that put out 3,200 to 3,600HP. The same engine, for marine applications, with changes in pump timing and minor cam differences but no other modifications is capable of producing...
Not sure what the specs are but after thinking in terms of microfarad ratings for years I was surprised to run across them rated in farads. I remember what a wallop the little ones could deliver if you charged one and left if for some unsuspecting soul to find.
HEMTT (Heavy Expanded Mobility Tactical Truck). Looks like an M-977 from the pictures. Sitting on 1600X20 tires. On the rear is a knuckle crane for self-loading and unloading cargo.
Thanks for the info Clinto! I was hoping it wasn't one more '60s hallucination.
THE big problem we had with them was that; while on rough but solid ground they'd work great-- in mud or swampy conditions, a corner of the vehicle would often sink like a stone if it found a particularly soft spot.
Then just wait 'til you get your hands on an A3. Oshkosh takes in tired HEMTTs, does a frame up rebuild and sends them out the door as brand new A3s. (Probably why so few HEMTTs have hit the market)
No trans, transfer case, driveshafts. Just AC motors that bolt directly to the differentials.
No...
Yeah, but they're the only thing I've found that crimps solidly without distorting the terminal so badly that it can't be assembled into the mil spec connectors. Welcome to the AF8 Club Kenny.
When I was in 'Nam we had two M37s that had flex joints in the frames allowing the front end of the truck to rotate, along it's axis, from the rear. The set-up consisted of a double crossmember with a big slip joint made out of two pieces of pipe; an inner, attached to the forward x-member and...
Yep, I think it's for everything. On the first page, scroll down to item manifest, click on "More Info" under the NSN and you'll see it lists; under nonsupply items and quantities, lines 5 and 6 "Winch and Bumper (P/N 983-75-50050CVB) 1".
