You should make it a side dumping trailer. You know, one that raises up to dump on one side instead of to the rear. Not sure if that would work for you but it should be fairly easy and different.

I would only suggest removing batteries and draining fuel if its just going to sit for a year. No need to make more work for yourself when you come back.

I would say do 1/8 of a turn at a time because small rheostats like that are usually sensitive in a very small part of their range and do nothing at all on the other 90% of their range of motion. I would suggest a last try with the truck running and a volt/ohm meter hooked up with alligator...
I don't see why not as long as they aren't real soft aluminum. I'm assuming you have the steel ones. All I've ever used were steel. Had some aluminum ones given to me once and they obviously were for something other than shims because that wouldn't keep a consistent air gap on the clutch.
Just an idea... Check/ replace master power switch. No experience with that on a deuce so take that into consideration, but I have seen faulty ignition switches in other vehicles start them up and run all of the accessories but cause the alt not to charge sometimes or unless you wiggle the...
