You're absolutely right. I missed that, somehow. Now I need to figure out how it works - is the cooler's core divided into two sections? And how does the temp sensor know if the front system gets hot?

Using my SEE for real work

That sounds like a memorable couple of days, peakbagger. My first thought when reading about the ditch crossing was "Ah, he needs better tires." Then I thought about using the backhoe to push the SEE up and over the ditch. Finally, and based on experience, I thought "I'd fill in that portion of...

The cooler is for the rear system only, as far as I can tell, as they seem to be completely separate systems. And the fans are wired together, so both are supposed to run when the temp sensor decides that they should. I don't think I ever thought to check if the front tank got hot, but if things...

    Fuel pedal does not return

\ I hope so, too. But if it happens again, is there any reason why you couldn't add a spring to the system elsewhere, or replace an existing one with a stronger version?

new to me set of 419 axles

There's FLU 419.101, FLU419.102, and FLU419.103. Also known as SEE, HME, and HMMH. Except for the HME, the drive train is identical between them. Well, the HMMH has a front suspension lockout that the others don't, but still. For your purposes it's SEE or FLU419, being the same thing.

I'm with you there. If the fluid needs to be changed, might as well use the better one for the application as long as the price is reasonable. Should I ever end up in the situation where a trans would need repair/replacement, that FLU would instantly become a parts car. There's no way I'd spend...

I'd take beer over olive oil, if it's for my consumption. Machinery would prefer the oil, I think. Olive oil saved my butt once when I ran out of gas with a 2-stroke motorcycle. A few people stopped and offered gas, but nobody had any 2-stroke oil, or any oil - until a guy from Greece showed up...

Interesting observations, alpine. My concern here would be that people have different standards about what's good, bad, or indifferent, when it comes to how a transmission shifts. And to make things more "uncomparable", it's different transmissions. Each of mine shifts a bit differently, and...

Well, there are lots of transmissions living happily with engine oil in them, as per the manufacturer. But probably few of them are as costly and hard to replace, putting the FLU trannies in a different league.

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

How about a replacement from a pickup? I'm guessing that they could be the same, or at least very close.

Ah, you did it in the opposite order of what I did, aka the correct way. I cleaned and cleaned, then started using Biobor. Haven't checked the strainer recently, but the fact that the SEE now runs for at least an hour or two (instead of 10-20 minutes) is a good sign. My tank cleansing was...

Yeah, those anaerobic gasket makers can be pretty bulletproof, especially when used with the correct prep stuff. Didn't want to chance it when putting the creeper kit in my tractor so that's what I used. Mostly because there's 15 gallons of expensive fluid in there, not "cheap" AW-32. But...

Based on what I've read, you may have rinsed out all the resulting evidence of the bacteria/fungus, but the source may well still be there in the system. Either way, it should take a while before you need to clean out the strainer again.

Couldn't that one be sealed with silicone?

Installed a Class 3 receiver htich on M1009

Funny, I had 8 miles of 8% grade. Also not following your father's advice, eventually my 1009 had a Banks turbo, 700R4, and 4.10 3/4-ton axles. Those mods made the beer runs (and any run up the hill) far more pleasurable. Never did use the receiver much outside the property. Being used to...

I dunno about that. I hauled lots of beer with my 1009. Not using its receiver, though.

Bearings are usually standard issue, so if you can find any kind of numbers on them they should be available from several places. If you have a good bearing supplier nearby, the measurements alone should be enough.

No dice on tightening the cap. There's also a set screw of sorts that can only go in one position, half in the cap, half in the cylinder. Oh well, it's barely seeping (so far) so it'll be left alone for now.

Thanks for that tip, alpine! Sounds like you've been through that one yourself. And thanks for reminding me about that cylinder needing attention in the first place - too much going on so it didn't even end up on the list. Now it will.

Today the what I now call Summer SEE got to do some more work. It was the first time using the 12-inch bucket, digging a new ditch, and it sure felt like I was just spinning my wheels. Not literally, as the Super Swampers have very good traction, but to only get half as much dirt per scoop...
