Got driveshafts balanced yet? Otherwise, it's like a grenade ready to go off at any time.

Of course the balance of a driveshaft is important, but... If the flanges (or output shafts) and those on the receiving end aren't close to parallel, it will be hard to keep joints in it. Essentially, it tries to make the ends of the driveshaft turn at different speeds as the axis is shifting...

Plug for clutch bell housing ?

There was a MWO to fab a bracket and install same in the glove box to store the plug there. I've seen a couple of them over the years. DG

Looking for the specific difference between "Split Rings" and "Split Rims/Widowmaker"

A simple ID of the safe wheels is the ring is stamped "LTS". Those are very hard to assemble incorrectly. $100 worth of tools and you can learn how to do it yourself and never depend on tire shops again. I've been doing my own for over 55 years now and NEVER had a close call with them. Dennis

I had one years ago, but the data plate on it said V-41 rather than M201. DG

    Adjustable pintle hitch receiver?

Ken, Fab a 90 degree bracket, with the top flange lining up with two of the bolts on the bottom of your 5-ton front bumper driver side, the other flange drilled to accept the 4 bolts of a regular pintle hook. Put it together and you'll be SO HAPPY moving trailers around that way. It won't...

    New guy from Arizona

One of the best tacticals ever, done in an age when engineering and testing was first-rate. Peruse the TM's here on the site, build confidence in the truck & yourself, and let it do the jobs it is capable of. These rigs are a bargain, you'd spend $ with a lot of zeros to get a civilian truck...

Bolt on wheel spacers for the deuce. Where to get them?

Maybe get a pair of M34 (M135) wheels, they have the rim set out a bit, and were designed to run as singles all around. Might just give you enough room. Dennis

    Tire Changing Fun?

I cut a notch in all my 20-bolt wheels and run radial tubes/flaps on my M54A1. I could never keep air in them otherwise. My wife made planters out of all the rubber inserts... You could run by the local Guard base and see all the trucks listing one way or the other 'cause of that dumb design...

    Towing a 5TON 6X6

At best, have someone in the towed wrecker to help steer. At least, tie the steering wheel midpoint with a bungee or it will go full lock at the worst possible time after a turn. Don't forget tacticals are meant to tow other tacticals. Make sure to hook up BOTH air hoses, and open the...

Don't forget they are reverse thread on the driver's side... Spoil yourself and get a Harbor Freight Earthquake electric 3/4" drive impact. Absolutely amazing how much torque it has and how many lugnuts it will do. Dennis

    Alternator carnage!

Welcome the the finest in 60A alternator design. (not). Prestolite really got into the gov contracts with that design, and those are very prone to exactly the type of failure you experienced. The best thing the military did to help prevent regulator failure was to run the main output wire...

Took my deuce off road and busted my kidneys out

Carry at least a ton in the bed, it will make things a lot more comfortable. Make sure to tie it down, too. Dennis

    Dodge M37: Door Locks?

Yep, just push it the opposite way from opening it. It will schlep into a groove and the outer handle won't turn. Dennis

    1952 M37 Engine Swap Questions

I believe I have that bellhousing. Please PM me if you are interested in buying it. I did a 318 conversion years ago, and had to use a 435 with a longer input shaft to accommodate the bell I had at the time. Be aware, lots of high-speed highway driving will destroy your rear ring & pinion. I...

    Electric M37

Too bad you'll lose the 24V system. It was the lifeblood of the truck's engineering. Dennis

I know the early ones with the 8-bolt hub covers are. Not sure about the 3-bolt covers. The master cylinder kit is the same as the Checker cab. Dennis
