    5 ton Mack engine

Au contraire 73M819...gasser & Multifuel 5-tons use a 5-speed straight trans. This is because they run a lot faster RPM than the Mack or Cummins engines. 3400/2700 vs 2100 in terms of governed speed. I have tried overdrive tranmissions in Multifuel trucks, they just won't pull highway speeds...

Detroit 3-53 with Allison AT545 Pics..

RE: Re: RE: 353 Detroit Gamma is a Greek letter, the Gama Goat is spelled differently. There ought to be a blue aluminum tag on the valve cover, maybe you can slide it out and scan it. it will have all the options and the configuration, HP, governed speed eTc. on it. Things important are the...

Any pictures or information on the Dodge XM195?

RE: Found another pic Reportedly only three were built. One was in private hands as of 5 years ago, whereabouts unknown now. One was disassembled at the Chrysler plant after the pilot program was over. The third rests out on a firing range at Yuma Proving Grounds. I saw it years ago, and it...

    S250 AC unit

Most of them are set up to run on 3-phase 120/208 Volt power. I have never seen one as a heat pump or with heat strips installed. Usually, a shelter has two or more standard milspec electric heaters, and may have multifuel flame heat as well. An AC unit will cool to a certain split (usually...

    M211 Transfer Case

So how did the transfer case bolt up to the turbo 400? Or is this a divorced transfer case? It was/is a divorced unit, so a single driveshaft with the right yokes and spline was used. IMHO, it was all Spicer stuff. dg

    M211 Transfer Case

Years back I repowered a GMC M135 with a 501 V8 & turbo 400 trans out of a '70's Caddy El Dorado. I used an aftermarket low 1st gearset in the 400, and the stock transfer in the GMC. It worked just fine, pulled good off-road, and was a LOT faster on the road. Overall mileage stayed the same...

Age & make of 5 ton

All the Mack powered 5-tons I have seen were built by Kaiser-Jeep, and were from '66 to '68 in year. At least 10 trucks in that discovery, 3 of mine included. Military repowers notwithstanding, as anything goes there. dg

    Help ID a transfercase

That transfer looks like that from the G749 GMC duece of the 1950's. It is a sprag type case, single speed permanent underdrive, and needs a mechanical signal from the transmission to tell it which way to turn for forward or reverse. The two shafts are for drive/neutral and forward/reverse...

    5 Ton Mack Engine Filters

Just wash the element in a tub of soapy water, rinse it out gently, and let it air try. They will last many years in all but the worst service areas. I live in the desert with plenty 'O dust and they go for over 20K miles. Too expensive to just replace without need. BTW, I have two A1...

    M35 Horn

BTW, the Multifuel Duece & 5-ton fuel pumps don't have a circuit breaker. They have the only fuse in the whole truck. The circuit breakers are the thermal type, and will reset automatically. They will keep cycling on & off till they just burn up if the short perseveres and the...

HELP!!! 12VDC Trailer Lights on 24VDC Deuce

If you want to use the dual-filament type 1662 24-Volt lamp instead of the usual 1157 12-Volt item, be aware the contacts are reversed. What was tail will now be stop/turn & vice versa. Not insurmountable, but can make you crazy if you didn't know. dg

Mating a Spicer 3053 to SBC

I may have access to 4 BB chevy's with SAE#3 housings. The data on them is upcoming, will get back to this thread with some pix if so. dg

    Dash Lights+ turn signals

A set of type 356 lamps will work berter than the original type 313's. Better light behind the panel where you need it. Clean the dust off your gage lense ports as well while you are at it. dg

    Diesel in m37?

RE: diesel engine in m37 I did a goat motor repower in mine back in '76. It still runs like a raped ape and 240,000 miles on it. Very little maintence, plenty of grunt. I LIKE the noise, too. Send me you E-mail and I'll forward the a little movie I took on the freeway running it. dg

    Explain Multifuel

The injection pump and injectors used with the multifuels all have hardened parts internally so as not to gall when buring fuels like gasoline or arctic mixes for extreme cold weather. The new ultra-low sulpher fuels are righht at home in a mil-spec engine. Just about anything that burns short...

    Radials plus innertubes

Gama Goat wheels are tubless AND have a lock ring. They seal along the annular surface just behind the ring, which make changing them a bit of a chore at time (I run them on my M37). That being said, they are the only ones like it I've ever seen on an stock MV. They were made by SanKey in...

    Bridge plate yellow?

The GSA log calls it "Chrome Yellow Flat" IMHO. May be tough to get in a spray can. Krylon made a yellow primer that was a great match but I have not seen it for sale in some time. dg

Why do I have no front drive in forward, but do in reverse?

RE: Re: RE: Why do I have no front drive in forward, but do The air piston cylinder on the transfer can rust up, causing it not to move freely and stop the signal getting to the sprag fork. It is a simple operation to pull the can and clean it out. As stated, front axle hubs are not useful on...

    Air horn sound

The pitch of the horns is set by the trumpet length, not the diaphragm pressure adjustment screw. They are tuned to a tritone interval, a very dissonant pitch between a 4th and 5th on the scale. Not designed to be regal, just obnoxous. Here is the skinny on adjusting the standard tactical air...
