Years ago I was at the USMC base in Yermo, Ca. I bought an M37 on sealed bid. Next to the DRMO yard was the motor pool.
I moseyed over and talked with a mech, and he led me out back to a fenced yard full of hundreds of Multifuel engines on pallets.
All had rod failures with the center web...
I don't like the look of the reversed single wheels on the rears, so I pulled the hubs, reversed the studs and bearing races, and reinstalled them.
Now all 6 wheels look the same, with the dish out. A bunch of work, but worth it to me.

I had a genset doing very much the same thing.
It turned out to be a shop rag in the Diesel tank. It would get sucked up to the intake and shut down. Let it rest a bit, and away it went.

Original goat tires were marvelous; 11.00-18, tubeless, steel belted BIAS tires. To my knowledge, only made by Goodyear in the original configuration. NLA, sorry.
You can find Duck tires, but they are really stiff and don't work worth a hoot off-road.

One thing to think about is how these trucks are built...very high gear ratios, slow speeds mostly. They accrue more wear and tear than a civilian vehicle of the same size. Everything that turns turns faster but goes slower than your regular Peterbuilt.
