    Bobbed deuce speed

Years ago I was at the USMC base in Yermo, Ca. I bought an M37 on sealed bid. Next to the DRMO yard was the motor pool. I moseyed over and talked with a mech, and he led me out back to a fenced yard full of hundreds of Multifuel engines on pallets. All had rod failures with the center web...

XM816 swap to Michelin 53 Super singles

I don't like the look of the reversed single wheels on the rears, so I pulled the hubs, reversed the studs and bearing races, and reinstalled them. Now all 6 wheels look the same, with the dish out. A bunch of work, but worth it to me. You don't have to buy any parts to do this mod...

10W oil substitute for PS fluid?

Hit up your local feed /farm store. They usually sell 'tractor fluid' aka hydraulic oil in 5-gal buckets. I get mine for around $35. Dennis

    Evaluating a 5-ton for value?

If that R6602 engine runs (and they usually do), it might be a real item if not used for lots of travel. A beautifully engineered engine, from the era of truck road motors before Diesels took over. 7 main bearings, some were fitted with chrome cylinders and soft rings, sodium-filled valves and...

Pulling a vaccuum on the fuel tank is a good suspect, too. Conelrad

3.5KW runs great for 30 minutes, Dies, Wait 30 minutes, runs great for 30minutes

I had a genset doing very much the same thing. It turned out to be a shop rag in the Diesel tank. It would get sucked up to the intake and shut down. Let it rest a bit, and away it went. G744

    1953 M211 Brush Truck

Some don't like hearing it, but the GMC is tougher than the Reo in service. But, tougher to fix, too. DG

    Civilian tires for Gama Goat

Original goat tires were marvelous; 11.00-18, tubeless, steel belted BIAS tires. To my knowledge, only made by Goodyear in the original configuration. NLA, sorry. You can find Duck tires, but they are really stiff and don't work worth a hoot off-road. 42" tall 18's are available at better...

When Does a Truck get Overhauled?

One thing to think about is how these trucks are built...very high gear ratios, slow speeds mostly. They accrue more wear and tear than a civilian vehicle of the same size. Everything that turns turns faster but goes slower than your regular Peterbuilt. Newer 5-tons notwithstanding, they seem...
