CTD has already had pump timing tweaks, throttle plate and turbo up-grade into 4" exhaust. (It's the engine out my Dodge which was totalled in a t-bone accident but luckily had an organ donor card on file). Thinking somewhere around 260 to 285 hp. Transmission is an re-manned Allison AT545N and...
The slots go to the top; you're right about detection from above idea. Saturn has the lenses but any plastic supply house should have sheets of colored material to cut filters from.
In keeping with my off the shelf replacement parts theory; the mounts are stock steel-reinforced rubber Dodge pick-up cab mounts. If they prove to be too light I'll machine myself replacements out of urethane but as a complete Dodge cab weighs more than the t-case I'm hoping they'll do the job...
Yeah, it's funny how big or little an object looks depending on it's surroundings. The basic truck was a run-of-the-mill M35. The difference comes from the cab size and the 1600X20s on 5 ton axles and springs.
All new brackets and other assorted hardware are getting a healthy coat of red oxide...
baby HEMTT news
Positioned on stands, the engine and transmission are getting measured for motor mounts. Side racks in place help bring things back into scale.
If your shift forks are tight on their sliding shafts you might look to the top cover for a gummed up detent ball, or it's spring might be collapsed or broken.
Hello Mike,
Just like the full-sized HEMTTs, the gap between bed and cab will be taken up by the engine dog house, battery box, spare tire and it's hoist, air and fuel filters, and antenna base for comm and GPS. Space from bed to frame between bed mounts will have snubbers to support bed while...
Thanks guys for the kind words but when I stick weld ithe part ends up looking like a steel porcupine.
I'm not shy about giving the good guys credit; I can tack weld with the rest of them but when it comes to welds that I have to depend on, I go with the pros. I do their machining projects and...
baby HEMTT project update
Well, believe it or not, I actually got something done on the baby HEMTT. After numerous failed attempts, I finally worked up a set of t-case mounts that; support the t-case, fit in the space allowed and don't need to be assembled or disassembled like a chinese puzzle...
Just pitched a couple of bucks towards the donation tab. Wish it could be more. Many thanks to all the forum moderators, new-found friends and knowledgable types who populate this site and keep it afloat. No matter how much we pitch in to keep this outfit going; it's still a lot cheaper than...
More than a few of these, mine included, were converted to Chrysler flathead sixes by their civilian owners for more power. If I remember correctly, one of the earmarks was the front mount had to be reversed so that the tabs pointed backwards because the Chryslers were longer. If I can share...
I'm with you, RMG. I figured hasps with padlocks or the lockable, inset handle latchs (similar to a HEMTT outside door latch), on the 5 tonner tool boxes would slow down most thieves. And too, if they can't see the stuff, they're less likely to decide they want it.
Take a look at the tool/storage boxes on Unimogs for ideas. Gonna use boxes off of a 5 tonner for the baby HEMTT if they'll fit. Otherwise, I'll make my own using sheetmetal and the latches off of a few scrap hood side panels I've got laying around. Should work out OK.
I know I'm throwing myself...
Start-up is definately the hardest, when everything is cold and whatever oil film in bearings is the thinest.
Personal experience on the Power Punch;
Just started using the engine oil additive but have used their Extreme Pressure gear oil additive for quite a while with good results. I have no...
It's a matter of choice for most people. I like the idea of an additive that leaves a film of lube for start-up although STP and Slick 50 seem to up the viscosity in larger quantities. I've always used Power Punch products for both engine and gearcase applications with good results. First-line...
