    US Army Mog?

And pricey too. Just got a quote from MB/Freightliner for a bare Unimog 406 cab... 17,000 euro. But it DOES come with the windshield and back glass.

    US Army Mog?

For anybody interested in reading up on them; the operator's manual, TM9-2420-224-10 is in the tech library. And, for what it's worth, I've got the hard copy version of the 24P manual for same.

    Charging diagnosis

With a volt/ohm meter, check your voltages at the batteries, running and shut down; and if everything is right at that location, look towards the battery condition gauge being bad or, if it uses one, the shunt wire that it reads off of. Battery condition gauges won't show changes based on engine...

    baby HEMTT update

Stay tuned, Armada I think I need to shop for a HEMTT steering box, IF the flow rate is compatible with the M900 assist ram as the HEMTT set-up has a second steering box for the #2 steer axle. I determined that, when you turn the HEMTT wheel to the right, the steering shaft turns to the left...

    Amphibious M37

I guess some people mistake amphibious with submersible. At least with no deep water kit, it'll drown out before it gets to the driver's chin.

HEMMT M977 Crane Swap Deuce Project

Hey Spicergear, Great looking job! Nice to see another member of the heavy iron clan come into the spotlight. Good looking and obviously well thought out. Signed, the baby HEMTT and his boy, Leonard.

    baby HEMTT update

Nope, they were depot rebuilds from Barstow Truck Parts; no idea where they got them from.

    Deuce Wrecker Engine Swap

Good looking job Kenny; two thumbs up for ya. I especially like the Mikwaukee speed wrench in pic 32s. That and a hot wrench are my favorites.

    baby HEMTT update

Ryan, Yeah that's pretty much it. With this particular project what was a god-sent was having a crane and 16K# cap. saw-horses at my disposal. I just position and securely block everything and attack it with a tape measure and sheets of heavy cardstock paper if I need templates. Doing it that...

    baby HEMTT update

I'm assuming no lockers as I don't have any plumbing except for air brake lines and axle vents unless they're internally controlled. I could do a search based on the numbers off of the axle tag but that hasn't been real high up on the list of priorities. Yes to the HEMTT style front skid-plate...

    baby HEMTT update

Well, I'm gonna go with three color camo in CARC. It's the stock M35 12 foot bed; it just looks small because its sitting on 5 ton M900 series axles and HEMTT wheels and 1600X20 tires. Just to give an idea of size; I'm 6'3" and the floor of the bed hits at the top of my shoulder. My neighbors...

    baby HEMTT update

Thanks for the kind words guys. BFR, I'll be taking orders as soon as they let me out of the home; sometimes, when this or that bracket doesn't quite fit, I feel like I know what it takes to create an ax murderer. Wick and Trango, the gap will be partially filled with walkways on either side of...

    baby HEMTT update

Well, the motor and trans mounts are done, installed and the powerpack is secured. The truck made it home today so I can just walk out my front door and go to wrenching; no more 1 hour drives until it's ready for paint. Fuel and air tanks on and mounts for the walkways are the first orders of...

Talking on a Cell in a deuce

The military uses lead sheet for sound deadening which would be ideal if one wanted to add weight and become the neighborhood health hazard. What about some of the sound deadeners that are sprayed or rolled on? They're basically a thick-as-you-want-it-to-be rubberized coating and are formulated...

    Steering wheel size and height

You're right about getting by with a smaller wheel with P/S 'cause you wouldn't need as much leverage. I haven't paid a lot of attention to wheel size myself other than to know, in rough terrain, the driver needs all the help he can get keeping deuces and up - pointed in the desired direction.

    Split Rims

To Wallew & everyone else for that matter. Don't take anything I say personally, or for that matter - seriously. And if I had a particular idiot in mind, it would most likely be me; heck, just remember, I get to see me in action on a fairly regular basis. No, I'm talking about the civilians (non...

Talking on a Cell in a deuce

Hmmm, no make-up while driving the deuce. Well, that would explain why my lipstick looks like a seismograph earthquake read-out.

    Split Rims

The Budd rims on the baby HEMTT are three piece and pretty well thought out (see the rim drwg in the tech articles section); there's even a tab on the safety ring that keeps them from being installed backwards. I hesitate to use the term "idiot-proof" because the world keeps designing better idiots.

Talking on a Cell in a deuce

Jeez Kenny, anybody knows that pizza in a deuce should be accompanied with a finger bowl and linen napkins; and they can be stored in a tasteful rack mounted right behind your door pillar bud vases. I agree cell phones are bad as a distraction. But then so is trying to read your snail mail, the...

How many miles should I expect from an LDT 465

There are documented cases of CTDs going a million plus miles without a major; and when I worked for the RR, if they didn't get about the same service out of the Detroits in the locomotives - heads in the rebuild department would roll. All diesels want/demand is clean air and fuel and no abuse...
