This guy has lots of neat comm related stuff and may be able to help you or at least point you in the right direction. www.murphyjunk.bizland.com Prices are kinda up there but the quality always looks good.
Skidplate, grill and assorted hardware done and installed. With the exception of the grill, headlight and observation window openings, the skidplate is one continuous piece of .250" 4' X8' steel plate. Wrestled that sucker up into place after making the top and bottom brackets; placed and...
Pennies work good with their sharp little edges for breaking loose rust deposits, enough weight to them to be effective, and being copper they won't create a spark and so can be used in tanks or cans, even with some fuel still in them.
Supposedly cleans up emissions for smog checks and of course works as a water magnet to combine with and get moisture out of fuel systems. Would probably be a pretty good gas deposit remover too. Not sure I'd use it on a regular basis though.
RE: Military vehicles bought by terrorists for nefarious purposes.
With lots of cheap vans and non-descript cars on the market, why think they'd buy a vehicle that'll stand out like a fish in a tree?
Any chemical treatment will leave residue in seams that's difficult if not impossible to remove; sandblasting... some sand will always stay long enough to be carried into your fuel tank/in-tank fuel pump. Here's a trick that works well. Get about $5.00 worth of loose pennies, put in can and...
I've got a hard copy of the TB but don't know how to turn it into a pdf file to post. If all else fails, I could reproduce the manual if someone wants to help with cost.
Yep, mine was behind the grill on the driver's side. You'll find them in different places depending on whether the truck was in Swiss, German, French or NATO service.
Yeah, they're definately big. Just found complete deuce tanks for $125.00 ea. Looks like I'm gonna pick up a pair of them come payday. Thanks to all for looking around for me.
Mine was in the left side face of the dash under a spring-loaded flip-up cover like an oil cup has. About the size of a quarter. There's also one on the outside front cowl for plugging in aux lights or the swingfire heater power cable; look in the vicinity of the headlights.
I've been finding themn from $50 to $200 for the bare tank to $150 to $300 for complete. Prices are all over the board. Then there's freight to get them here to factor in. The only problem is the length so my second choice is to cut out the end away from the filler on these 5 tonner tanks and...
Jim,
These tanks are 43 1/2" X 26" X 17". Problem for me is the idler Pitman arm I had to make for my steering and it's swing. Too far forward and the draglink hits the tank on a tight right turn; moved far enough back to clear the swing and I'm into the front bed mount.
Can be palletized, and...
Hello Jim,
The 70 gal tanks look fresh except for some condensation which will wipe out and have new fuel level sending units with them. The tanks are 17" deep if that tells you anything. I've got some spotted at Barstow for a good price but will end up with the 70s that I don't need.
For the baby HEMTT project; I'm looking for two complete deuce fuel tanks in good shape... Anybody?
Have two good 70 gal. tanks minus the in-tank units for trade or sale.
Look in the Tech Articles section; I just submitted a detailed instruction page on the way the cargo cover tie downs are supposed to be secured. Hope that does you some good.
The A3s have 'em for sure. Might be a few A2s with them also. There's a picture of the pockets from outside the bed in my M35A3 post in the Photo Gallery section.
