Got them at work and they're pretty good once you get used to not feeling for the levers. First batch had problems so if you find one, make sure of the mfg. date which should be 2005 or later.
Same here. I've been waved out of line with a "what's the matter, you lost?" look. Since it's not a commercial rig and obviously well maintained, they don't seem to get excited. They're mostly on the lookout for rigs that are in dangerous condition or are a hazard to navigation. Was once told by...
The original deuce bumperettes were marked "A(?)40" over "240-SPT" on the left with the right bumperette being unreadable; but the baby HEMTT is now such a composite that I figured why blame it on anybody in particular. My bumper markings will be xXxxxxx over a small CA and a small US.
(The...
Most all tactical vehicles are designed with what could be viewed as too much slop but it's there for a reason; without it you wouldn't have the flexibility necessary to traverse the really ugly terrain they're intended to make it through. From jeeps to ten-ton tractors, all have to make it...
I'm for protection as far upstream as you can get it. Keyed master batt sw, available from implement dealers or mobile home suppliers, inside the batt box or tool box then lock the box too. Protection against sticky fingers and unauthorized joyrides.
Thanks for the kind words. I always try to think far enough ahead to the day when I'll be maintaining it and I hate an interference fit when it comes to swinging a wrench. Everything should be mechanic and service friendly.
Didn't want you guys thinking I'm just sitting by the fire, twiddling my thumbs.
Lately I've;
Mounted steering box and found that tire hits it in tight right turn. Made bracket and re-mounted steering box four inches higher.
Made up bracket and mounting plate for steering idler arm so as to have...
Legal disclaimer: I can only vouch for the weight of MY bed, slightly higher west of the Rockies, individual results may vary, void where prohibited by law.
Can send pics of the bed in the air with a close-up of the scale face for verification, iffens you like.
Got mine out of an outfit in Australia. 20-32 VDC input, 13.8 VDC output at 40 amps continuous duty/45 amps surge; fully regulated so I can charge an onboard 12 volt battery too. Paid $160.00 but I figure it isn't something I'll need to worry about overworking.
Out here the DMV is smart enough (if you point them the way) to agree that a Packard and a Deuce aren't made by the same manufacturer. There's no way duplicate numbers don't exist, even in nature. The only thing we occasionally run into is something we have called year of manufacture plates. If...
Hey 1075,
When we set my M35 bed back on the baby HEMTT we had a Martin-Decker crane scale hung on the boom. The bare bed with tailgate came in at 1340# according to the readout.
Drilling is OK (just look at the frame brackets on the baby HEMTT). Welding is frowned upon because of stress risers at the edges of the weld heat spread.
Thanks guys. I'll be the first to admit that I don't know everything, but four-wheeling for 47 of my 60 years has taught me a few valuable lessons like; if the surface is incredibly smooth it's probably water or ice, chain your rig high to low on the towed/stuck vehicle, don't beat up another...
A friend of my buddy thinks his H-1 Humvee is the greatest thing on wheels and must spend his idle hours thinking of harpoons to fire at me and my 416 Unimog; too slow, too noisy, hard to get into, antique pieces of German cr@p, etc. So it must have killed him to have to call and ask if I could...
You're right Matt, The rear bogey with axles was one of the first things to go after we had the frame exposed. I'll have some more pictures in a day or two and you can see it with fuel and air tanks in place and with the steering box mounted. Working on skidplate framework and brackets for the...
Yep, Just got the mounting brackets made and the steering box bolted in place; the fuel tanks and air tanks are on and being plumbed in. Will have a new batch of pictures in a few days. Setting up to bend up the skid plate and will then fab up the framework for it to fit when the plate is done...
