If you look up some of the TM's for those type vehicles, you can find the instructions for how the vehicles should be chained and blocked for transport. With some stripwood and scale chain you could have some really nice looking cars. It wouldn't take long either.
If you have sandblasting capability that may be a good option. Might give better adhesion with a slightly rough surface. Just enough to take away the shine. Norfolk Southern did that with some stainless steel cars that had to be painted to match their steam excursion train when it used to run.
I'm planning on doing my deuce very similar to Catman's, although I plan on putting bedliner in the back and floor of the cab. I'm thinking of redoing all the wood with just a light stain and polyurethane to be different. Slowly getting done piece by piece.
Those most likely WiLL NOT hold up to the vibration they will experience on a MV, especially at the top of a pole. Best to get some thing built by Whelen, Federal Signal or another quality manufacterer. Sometimes you can find ones on Epay.
Changing the subject a bit Randy, did you do anything more than just some sanding before painting, and what did you prime and paint with? Did you use any hardener?
OK to get back on track, my township FD is recreating a float they did in 2002 originally. They were asked to redo the float for the Delaware All Horse Paraded tomorrow. The float is a recreation of the famous photo of the the firefighters raising a flag over the rubble of the trade towers...
To make your cover look neater, you could do what we did with our old parts and tool truck in the maintenance section of my Guard unit. We had the top of the bows covered with a sheet of thin fiberglass like what they use on the inside of semi trailers. Of course this is if you plan to leave...
What's to stop YOU from making that call? It's your idea. It would probably be a full time job. Ever heard of the Super Sofa Store fire in Charleston? That's a fairly big city. Google it.
HappyLand states his dept. runs off of 4K per year. But then states that they have gotten grants for certain things and donations. They may only recieve 4K per year locally, but they certainly operate on more funding than that. You CAN'T run a dept. effectively on 4K a year. It's time the...
OK, so the master cylinder was leaking when I got the deuce so I knew it would have to come out and be repaired or replaced. No problem. I got extra parts when I got the truck, and it came with a rebuild kit AND and NOS master cylinder.
Now thanks to JATonka, I got some highspeed manuals on my...
If they were drunk and I was there, there they would've stayed. Almost got hit head on by a DUI that ironically I was on the way to the firestation to respond to his first rollover. Evidently he rolled it on the highway and landed on all four. Well that was good enough for him, so he kept...
In reply to quick farms, our dept. DID NOT SELL the Hmmwv, it was turned back into the GOVERNMENT agency that sells surplus equipment to local governments.
In Ohio I don't need to meet any requirements other than a DOT physical to drive ANY emergency vehicle no matter how big it is. So DOT...
If someone considers me to be flaming the poster, or being an A-hole when giving adice on this topic, I have no problem with that if it saves a life. (I made no comment on the grammer, but dang!) This is not about putting the wrong shade of OD paint on a museum restoration, this could easily...
It didn't turn out the way you thought it would because you don't have enought experience in this area, and it's VERY important to be informed. Don't take this as a beat down, use this to gain knowledge. The days of driving b@lls to the wall to a fire and seeing how much soot you can get on...
Do you have enough of a tax base to pay for a workman's comp claim or an OSHA fine? I'm trying to get you and your fire dept. to stop thinking it's 1960. You could probably find a factory built used truck that is safe for less than you think. While HMMWV's are "cool", they are a terrible...
????
Sounds like it's time to get a Chief who has a clue of what he's doing.

Are you referring to the "D" turbo's? When I was in the Guard, the whistlers where almost always faster than a non turbo truck. I was in maintenance for 8 years and I don't think we ever messed with turning up a pump. This was in the '80's so I don't know if we had any D's back then.
