Ah, that makes sense. Giant coupler that, in this case, provides additional gear reduction.
On an unrelated note, I wonder if anyone's tried to put an overdrive gear in an A3 auto transmission?
Actually, aren't automatics less efficient at transmitting power than manuals? Isn't there a certain amount of slippage in an automatic that's considered normal?
I don't doubt that the CAT diesel in an A3 provides more torque than the LDT-465... it's a more powerful engine. But an A3...
How do they determine the torque rating of an engine?
One foot long lever with a weight on then end of it connected to the output shaft and then keep adding weight in one pound increments till the engine can no longer turn?
I'm not an engineer, but that doesn't sound right...
I thought torque was the amount of force while HP was a unit of power, aka work applied over time?
Hah, what fortuitous timing.
I just learned that the evaporator coil on my chrysler concorde's A/C system is toast. $100 part... but $600 in labor just to get at it. They'd have to remove the entire dash assembly.
Compressor, lines, condensor are all solid. Evap coil is the only spot the...
Thanks for the help guys.

Yes, they had green paint on them. Looked like faded 383 green.
Yeah, I'm talking about mixing/matching rims. Not tires. They *look* like military rims... I don't know if the rims are a different size, tho...
Should I get the guy to measure the diameter of the rims? Or is the width the...
A guy down the road from me stopped by the house yesterday with 4 military michelin 1100 r 20s in the back of his pickup... wanted to sell them to me at $150 apiece. They were already on the rims. The rims looked like military split rims. 6 bolt hole pattern, just like a standard 9.00 r 20...
There's no fair or unfair about it. Would it be unfair for me to tell a friend about an upcoming auction by word of mouth? There's no difference in effect: increased numbers of bidders. I understand why it would upset someone... but it's not like government auctions are some kind of mystic...
I've been cruising craigslist for a replacement transmission and I found one that says it's an "electronic TH-400"
Huh?
It also says it is a "lockup tranny." What is that? Does it have to do with how it attaches to the transfer case?
