Time and Money... The 489 gear sets are available, plan on spending 1000 bux plus labor before you are done...and you might as well convert to disc brakes so you can stop from the higher speeds..in the long run you will probably live a 100 years before your amortise the cost of the conversion...
Regarding the lower pickup... remove your pump and carrier and see if the pump is in the lowest physical position to fit your tank... they are adjustable to fit a myriad of tank depths....rows of bolt holes along the sides of the bracket... you may have to lengthen delivery hose by a like...
The old rule of thumb is that the amount of fuel in the tank is directly proportional to the amount of shake in the needle....as the world turns... Jeeps were among the worst to display the symtoms... ACE
Guess I have no idea what you mean by strong enough... The fuel system in the Cucv was designed for Diesel No 2 and No1 ...Bio Diesel has been used by some folks ....I would worry more about the pump and poor lubricity as has been discussed ad nauseum..on many forums...I have heard of no...
RE: Low range
I be betting the lever is hitting the floor before the transfer rod has completed its travel into low notch. Just needs a little adjustment and perhaps lubing of the linkage joints...take my advice from above and whack the end of the shift rod with your brass hammer to get it...
those long heads should be retorqued from time to time warm and then cold...most 50 year old head gaskets are not quite like they were when they were new.. Lots of threads from the 6 cyl dual head multifuel users talking of leaking head gaskets, too...not a unique problem... ACE
Remember the box seat will accomodate fatter tushes and some really big folks take off the cushion and just put a piece of plywood in its place.. The cabs were designed in 1949 when folks were a lot smaller...no big Macs....only spam and bullly beef.. ACE
The bearing area is the same for both types... Remember the inner nuts are the only ones screwed onto the studs in dual sets... the outers are just on the inners.. so the inners are strong enough to hold two wheels... ACE...
I just velcrowed mine to the the inside of the windsheld frame and point the truck south...they allwork fine... My cucv has its on the right front corner of the hood....and so forth and so on..... From the pix... I would have velcrowed it to the top of one of the convoy lights...no holes, no...
The gummint drove the goats thru a paint booth with shower heads and gravity flow of multi gallons of paint to get em changed from green to tan as they did with most other series...any paint job is good enough...doncha no... ACE
Been going on for 20 or more years.. before the internet it was the cream de la creme... now it is more of a wake up from winter event... but you can see hankies bargains, and go to the Boston Dukws owners open house just down the road when you leave...go and see for your self.. get there before...
Most of the radio installation kits have a plethora of them... all types and styles... Don't get so paranoid about being correct, cuz the PFCs who were working on these trucks used paper clips... if you want to be original as used by the military...relax... no two trucks released from DRMO were...
Been buying the 800 series with real Cummins Diesels for about $4000 at the GL during the past few years... A multifuel cab and chassis.......maybe $3000....considering it has winch... ACE
There are various oil pressure gauges and senders... the two most common 0-60 and 0-120 have different senders...and they are marked 60 or 120. The temp gauges for various mil spec stuff have different ranges...and sometimes are marked on the senders with a MS number... like MS12345-11 etc...
All you new deuce drivers must remember to start moving in first gear all the time...this business of starting in second and slipping the clutch will only buy you trouble.. And the folks with the sprag unit should remember the first/reverse and reverse/first is the only good way to reset the...
Those trays are set up for group 31s also... just look at the threaded holes in the pans...you move the hold down rods and use the second set of holes in the holddowns.. Group 31s were furnished as OE on a lot of em...The dual use is a fine thing...ACE
RE: 35
there are two types of corners... and there are some metal verticals that have a ridge on em so they don't go all the way down into the sides...and there are wooden and metal horizontals and some are extruded plastic... and the beat goes on... most are interchangeable...and you see them...
