There are two axle units used on the M105 series trailers.
The earlier used the same parts as the Reo, so you can use backing plates, shoes, WC's, eTc interchgangeably.
The later one (with three screws holding on the bearing cover) is totally different from the Reo.

Mangus: Yep, the only way to remotely activate G742 brakes is to tap into one end of the line on the air-pak as described.
If you're going to tow it a lot, mod it to the way 5-tons are done. Simple and reliable then.

THe 5-ton has a automatic shuttle valve in the circuit full time to allow air into the cylinder from either the hydraulic control valve or the front gladhand. Wreckers and tractors have another one to allow the use of a Johnny bar in the cab.
Pumping air into the trailer output gladhand...
If you want to activate duece brakes remotely, remove the flared steel tubing between the control vavle and the end of the air cylinder on the air-pak booster unit. Buy a piece of tubing and nut to fit the socket. (or cull one from a parts widow and cut it in two. Put it in the end of the...
My experience with M-series trucks at the Proving Gorunds in Yuma was they did 24-Volt systems solely for the communications install (read radio) advantage. The mainline vehicular radio sets of the time were designed to run off a 24-volt system, with a few capable of backward compatability to...
I rack up a lot of miles on my trucks, in really hot (+122) and cold (-25) temperatures.
Optimas are the battery for me, cheaper in the long run by far and very dependable. Typical life is 6 to 7 years.
Costco has them for about $100 per.

The 8X8 Ford M656 uses the VERY RARE 200-HP 465-2 multifuel motor. They only made around 500 of thses trucks.
Now is your chance to make your duece pull those hills!

Tips: Take a look at the oil in everything via drain plugs. See that the first thing out is oil not water. Condensation will get in there. Does it make good air pressure? It is important on a 5-ton with a lot to stop. Check the little metal cylinder on the transfer that controls the sprag...
I have plenty of 353 lamps. PM me if you need some.
The good thing about using them is the filament is BEHIND the panel, rather than in front of it, thereby putting more available light where you need it.

The 900-series 5-tons have hydraulic winches as factory. The problem is the motor projects back into where the front crossmenber is on a G744 truck. A fix is to remove the motor, put it just below the winch on a steel plate, and use two Browning sprockets & chain to make it work.
If you run...
Real Detroits ceased to exist with the demise of the 2-cycle -53 and -71 engines. The -92's were too big for their britches, would literally twist themselves apart.
-60 series were junk, 100% concur there. Worse than the 8.2L
My thinking of theis is highway speeds and the resultant RPM (around 2700) is where the crank harmonics come into play causing the failures.
Perhaps the trick might be to regovern the high idle to no more than 2100, and reset the fuel timing and boost (higher pressure, re-mapped, &...
One obscure farm tractor as well. Not a raving success.
As mentioned in a previous post, I have seen over a thousand in a single yard in the Yermo (Barstow) USMC Supply Base with the center web blown out.
The argument of "beating them to pieces" causing them to fail prematurely is lame...
The multifuel wasn't designed to use thicker fuels than a regular Diesel, rather thinner. Like gasoline.
Jet "A", JP-8, CIE, all close to Diesel in viscosity.
Straight Mazola runs fine out here in the summer.
Ummm. tasty!

The early years found the M34, M35, and M36 serving together. The M34 had single 11.00-20 rubber and a lower, narrower bed with cutouts. The only M34's I've seen were gassers by Reo or Studebaker-Packard with the Reo Gold Comet 331 six. No later contracts were done for them.
It fell out of...
Maybe not golden but definately silver rule: Start with an engine posessing a reliable bottom end.
A question: What is the highest mileage multi out there? Not just on the odo, as a lot of trucks have been done up with new engines, but rather a documented lifespan of say 100,000 miles?
Not...
