I see drivers towing 5th wheel trailers all the time with 1/2 ton trucks. If you wire in a trailer brake controler It should work fine.

Get one of those gadgets that the ambulance drivers have in thier rigs. Change the light with a push of a button.

I would take that beast in a second. Replace the bed, Add custom wood side rails and a canvas surry cover paint the whole thing Sand and add black markings. That is a cool ride!
