Agree 100% with PB-Blaster and Kroil as penatrant; WD-40 is totally useless for that application, and its use will typically result in just what happened to you - broken parts, and more work that needs to be done.
WD-40 works well for what it was designed to do - displace water. Also does a...
Glad to hear it's back running - and generating. My next generator will be an MEP-003 - or the same thing in the soundproof housing.
The only surplus generator I've seen turn up locally is the MEP-017A I bought - but I'll keep my eye out for a 003 that I can afford to ship. When you live in...
I concur - that sounds like a bad or dirty adjustable resistor - or other dirty or flakey connection(s) somewhere in the system. Make certain every electrical connection is clean and tight; vibration is very different at different engine RPMs - so seeing the problem come and go at different...
A scrappy is there to make money - they don't have the same attachment to something in the yard that you or I might. It's all just iron and steel by weight - unless they have a ready market for some parts. Trouble is, if they just have a handfull of trucks of a specific type, it would cost them...
If you're going to go and look at the trucks yourself, you're miles ahead. There's a number of threads on what to check over - breaks being a critical item in addition to all the other things one normally looks at in a old truck or car.
A great place to start is the TMs; the listed operator...
FYI: In NH you can get a 20 day permit for $10 (once and only once per vehicle for that owner) using nothing more than the paid invoice from GL as proof. You will need the VIN number - and that's not on the invoice. I simply wrote mine down and took it with me along with the invoice and walked...
Glad to hear I'm not the only one. Just picked up my first deuce from auction last weekend, and tonight I put the wheels in motion for a private sale for my second truck - configured much more the way I want - and rust free - unlike my auction purchase from upstate NY.
My auction truck is a...
Up north where the weather is cold in the winter, we start splitting next winter's firewood in the spring and talk about fuel jelling while sitting in the shade on a 92 degree day in August.
There's no time to enjoy the warm weather - just time to plan and get ready for the upcoming cold season.
Just noticed on the History Channel HD the little logo in the lower right corner says "Happy VJ Day" above the big "H".
At least they remembered.

The question that pops into my head is, "What if the breaks fail on the truck you're using for towing"? Now you've got 26,000 pounds with no breaks - not just 13,000.
What are the roads like? What speed will you be going? How much traffic and haw many small towns along the way? How confidant...
Split bolts are a fairly easy thing for someone with a lathe and a mill to make. If you've got a friend that does some machining you might want to ask. Looks like a good job to trade for beer or a meal.

EUC sent to BC on 7/29, customer notified 8/10.
There doesn't seem to be rhyme or reason to the amount of time it takes.
This was my second EUC - the first one was for a genset declared as scrap, and took 9 days. The second is for a running truck and took 12 days.

The MEP-017A I just recovered and got running has the low oil pressure cutoff switch - but also an 'emergency run' switch position on the control panel - that disables the safety features like low oil pressure cutoff switch. Can't remember if it also disables the high temperature cutoff switch -...
The MEP-017A has the 2A042 10 HP 2 cyl engine. The carburetor has an old fashioned brass soldered float in it. Hopefully the new one will as well.
Seems like the 4A032 float could be replaced by something made out of the right kind of plastic that would be safe in ethanol. Would be fairly easy...
Picked up my MEP-017A yesterday. Chris from GL at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in Kittery is great to deal with, BTW. Genset was in generally good shape - built 1/68, generator rebuilt 1/91 with an engine dated 3/88.
Got it home, checked it over, filled the oil, and hooked up a couple extra...
Is there a troubleshooting flow-chart or process in the TM for electrical side failures? I think that's typically included. I think the TM for the MEP-017A has such a step-by-step one can follow for troubleshooting - but I've never looked at the MEP 003 TM.
For things like gensets, one...
A very valid point, jeepin - is any of this information really 'unlisted' or 'unpublished' when you're the DoD? Likely not.
I guess the original question is answered - 'unlisted' or 'unpublished' numbers seem to be just fine on an EUC.
