I pull a M116A1 trailer with an MEP003A genset on it all the time, which is the same as a 101. They pull great, but ditto on don't try to back up. Even if you can see the trailer it is very hard. I prefer pulling the 105 trailer behind the deuce, although backing up a 105 is no joy either.
First, welcome to Steel Soldiers. You've come to the right place for help with your MEP. The MEP003A is an excellent genset. I found some of the nuts on the underside of the connection box loose on my 003A, in fact, one nut was missing. Check these connections. Also try changing the switch...
A friend of mine bought a low-mileage H1 several years back with a diesel engine. He had major mechanical problems with the engine and other parts of the vehicle. The crankshaft even broke in half. After spending a lot of money on repairs, he sold it.
When I picked up my A2 at Ft Indiantown Gap back in 2009, I drove it back to North Georgia. It whined in 5th gear, a little louder when I let up on the accelerator. I figured that if it made that long trip, there was likely nothing to worry about - - wrong! Shortly afterwards when a few miles...
I would definitley recommend against putting the slime in there. It is always best to perform a real repair. The problem is almost always a leaky valve stem grommet. when the grommet is replaced, don't seal it with anything and don't seal the o-ring either. The valve stem nut should be...
I've permanently wired a cable into the output box with a pin and sleeve connector on the oppposite end that connects to a receptacle mounted outside near my garage. The receptacle is mounted in a weatherproof box that is connected by underground conduit to my transfer switch. I keep the...
I purchased an original canvas troop strap that I was told would fit my M35A2. It turned out to be identical to the M35A2 strap with the exception that it was too short, even extended to it's maximum length. I sold it to a friend with a Dodge M37 and it fit that truck perfectly. I would query...
Welcome to Steel Soldiers! I spent two years in Germany near Giessen in the early 70s while in the Army. More recently, I've spent a lot of time in Germany in Neuwied and Braunschweig on business. I love visiting Germany.
I just paid my last premium - $292.18 for six months. This is a State Farm commercial policy for non-commercial use.
For those insuring deuces as pickup trucks. Be very careful. That is considered fraud and if you get in an accident, the insurance company can refuse the claim. No way can a...
One important fact that people need to be aware of is that the minimum insurance requirements in most states to insure a vehicle are just that - minimal. In many states the minimal liability coverage is $10K. Even if you are driving a small car, $10K of liability insurance is not sufficient...
If you just had the starter rebuilt, they should have checked out the solenoid. I would take it back to the starter shop that rebuilt it and complain. Are you certain that they rebuilt the starter? A faulty solenoid could have been the original problem.
It sounds to me like you have already identified the issue. The starter solenoid is hanging up. Don't try to start the engine again until you fix it or you will damage the starter.
Ditto
Also, is it running smoothly? You never want to idle an MEP003A and it should be shut down at normal operating RPM for 60 Hz, but try reducing the RPMs for a slow idle for a few seconds and see if it is running evenly.
Mine is an early 98 with a steel hood and it has the floor mat and insulated soft top. However, my soft top was the same as an A2, it had simply deteriorated and the foam had expanded to become thicker and crumble all over. It has now been replaced by a new GMA top. I have seen a lot of A3s...
