sort of like a CUCV
Here is a shot of the utility body. The engine is not a 6.2. It is a 454. It is a carburerated engine and it has no catalitic converters either. I thought that this was wierd for an '88 model year, but it's like that for the heavy trucks of that year. I haven't started it...
I have some detail fotos of the utility body at work, so I'll add them tomorrow. It is built of heavy gauge aluminum throughout and has two slide outs, also aluminum. One had a small gasoline powered 115v generator, to power the scene lights, cold weather coolant heater/fluid pump and the 115v...
Here is the project that I'm mainly working on now. It is a Forcible Entry truck built by Landoll Corp. I call it "The Rescue Truck". I have installed an NOS rear axle for the A2 CUCV trucks so I could install a standard truck bed to allow me to carry a cab over camper. I liked the idea of...
I have one of those. Dana 60's front and rear with a 318 4V, auto trans, power steering and brakes. Mine still has the Air Force Blue paint job. It will be for sale as soon as I have a little time to spruce it up a bit.
I say go for it. The one in the foto has the square holes in the bumper for extra cooling. I've only noticed these on 4x4 duallys. An Air National Guard unit in Hayward, Ca. used to have quite a few CUCV Chevys which were built off of the body style that came just after this truck. They had neat...
Here should be the last update in this saga. The DMV never acutally sent anything to my brother, but he somehow talked GL into sending him the SF97. I guess he is very lucky.
On a similar note, just this afternoon I recieved an e mail from GL addressed to "Vehicle Buyers". Basically is said...
ccatlett1984, Back when all this problem started about two years ago, I was having glow plugs only last about a week. After three sets, I suspected the Resistors, so I bought a set of civi self regulating glow plugs and wired 12 volts to the relay. worked great for a year until I started getting...
ida34, well..... I thought I was a smart feller, but I guess I'm just a fart smeller, because when I got home tonight, I put one of those cheapo christmas tree light alt testors on my #1 alt and started the truck and noticed that the alt was putting oout only 12.5v at idle. The second I...
I'll look under the dash tonight. The card is in it's place hanging near the steering column and the glow light only comes on for cold starts and shows no current draw on the gauge after a minute or so. I had looked around prior, looking for loose or spliced wires, but found none. Now i'll...
That's interesting, I haven't had any low battery problems and I let the truck sit for a week at a time. I would think the glow plugs would draw the batteries down within a day. I'll have to check for wire harness butchery.
Ida34, if you look at the schematic of the cucv glow system, you will notice that the glow plug relay has two controlling wires. They are the small ones. One is blue and one is orange in color. The blue wire leads to a ground somewhere. I had a problem with a cucv and when I grounded the...
I have a M1009 that needs the vacuum controller for the transmission, that is located on the right hand side of the injector pump. Does anyone know the exact name for this part and possibly a civilian part number? Thanks.
Ida34, the switch located on the rear of the right head just rearward of the exhaust manifold is the Cold Start Advance Switch. The CUCV and Humvee both use this place for this switch. The Humvee switch has the water proof connectors as mentioned by Emmado22. The glow plug temp switch on the...
I have towed a few M1009's with another M1009 and I had no real problems. I have recently bought a Brake Buddy and I used it when towing a M1009 with another M1009 and it worked great. I had the braking set at the highest level. It gave me peace of mind. The Brake Buddy cost me almost $1,000...
MATT, Check with those rebuilders to see if they can use any of the inner parts that are used for making the Arctic version of the DB2, that is used in the Humvee's. I have heard that this Arctic version won't be hurt when using with low sulphur diesel.
