Hey Desert Deuce, Is there a good reason why Military parts like injector pumps and starters are placed in a box, then wrapped with a sort of foil wrapper and then placed in another box?
My brother is having the same problem with his M1009. It had no lights at all, even no BO lights since he got it surplus. I chacked all the fuses and they are all good. I think I'll chack the connection at the fusable links and see If I find any problems there.
Mutt1966, I have a Chevy truck with a factory installed NP205 and the shifter although different, still will not allow the use of the radio bracket unless the shifter is bent back or the bracket is raised and the amount needed makes mounting anything substantial impossible. I was thinking the...
The anntenna install kits for the CUCV's have some reinforcment brackets that acutally attach to the inner panel and reach through holes drilled into it to support the outer skin of the vehicle. It might be a worth while addition due to the weight of a full can of fuel.
mcne2026, If you're really expecting to drive any of the Cutvee's home, you'd be well advised to bring a couple of driveshafts. The Blazers usually don't have bent driveshafts from being fork lifted off of the flat bed trailers, but because of the different balance point, the trucks almost...
They do infact exist. They are stamped out of copper. they are just a little bit larger than the nuts and protrude into the stud hole in the outer half of the wheel and take up most of the space between the wheel studs and the hole. I don't know if the military ever used these, but they were...
The original color is called Bronze and I have called LMC and they don't have it. I think this color must have been used just for the military as I have found no one who has that color in vinyl or even paint for the dash pads. I haven't really done much additional research though. I did have a...
An M series vehicle would have had a data plate somewhere. It may be missing, but it probably is not an M series vehicle. It's probably a vehicle bought by the Military for use in non tactical purposes. It could have been originally painted just about any color, even semi gloss.
Ya, what brand is that? I have seen some mid '70's Chevy's which were purchased by the military, like they have done for at least 50 years and were painted a semi gloss green and even had some blackout lighting added, but they weren't tactical trucks as built.
If the bendix is bad the teeth will engege with the flywheel, but disengage early. You may have a bad bushing in the nose casting of the starter, Your hammering will probably work through the week, as things get worse, you will have to have someone cranking the starter while someone bangs on...
The bent Cutvee frames that I saw were twisted. It could easily be done by running off of a road and through a ditch when heavily loaded or on the Tracked Vehicle Test Track while empty.
They are sending up stuff from Barstow. I usually found stuff that was used by the Marine Corp at Barstow to be used up, but sometimes something came from somewhere else and was nice. Abut seven or eight years ago, while at Barstow inspecting a couple of M1008's that both had bent frames and...
If you're not going to use the factory rear axle proportioning valve, why don't you take it apart and let us know what's inside. I bet it is a couple of different sized holes that line up depending on position of the lever arm. It must have high quality seals and I'd like to know what they are...
I just did some sound proofing on my M1009 today. I did not have a floor mat so after cleaning the interior out with a garden hose the day before, I lined the floor with E Dead. I used two layers for the entire floor and a third in the front foot/firewall area. I then placed felt padding on top...
I remember reading about a guy that had a diesel boat and was worried about the fuel quality for his upcoming trip to Mexico. Aparantly in some remote places, the fuel is carried to the boat in whatever containers are handy, even in plastic buckets, so he got some sort of fine filter to use as a...
That's the side of alternate fuels that is not talked about by the Pie in the Sky people. Someone was trying to talk me into using bio diesel in my Diesel boat. It has a 8V71 Detroit and when I asked about injector and injector pump wear she said no problem. I diden't believe her for even a second.
That proportioning valve arm is there so when the truck is empty, the brake pressure is low enough to keep the rear brakes from locking up, especially in wet weather. When the truck is loaded, the brake fluid is allowed to flow at full rate so you can stop that heavily loaded heavy duty truck...
I think cages are really good safety devices, especially when you consider how many ways you can be injured in a collision. I was rearended by a drunk driver while driving an M1008 at60 mph while towing an M101 type trailer. He went under the trailer and partially under the truck which caused my...
