Genneral Questions about CUCVs, still trying to get one!

I definitely wouldn't buy one from GL and immediately drive it across the country. That just isn't a good plan. I wouldn't drive anything across the country unless I'd had it for at least 6 months and knew everything about it. I drove from Blacksburg, VA to San Francisco and back this summer...

    m1008 or m1028?

Limited slips are reliable, but once you get to the point that you'll be using it a lot, you'll want to go to a real locker. You would probably burn out the clutches pretty fast using it for anything other than mild wheeling. I think the 1028 does have the 205. I'm not sure about the...

Does a CUCV have power brakes?

How can you tell if the truck has dot 5 or 3? I got my truck from a guy who got it from a guy who got it from a guy...... and there is no way I can know if it had been switched or not.

    Fuel Pump

You can get the pump for a 1988 6.2 motor and it should be $90. There is more info in the FAQ for CUCVs thread at the top of this forum.

is this a M1008 Dana rear axle?

A shot of the diff cover will clarify, but I think it's a 14 bolt as well. They're not terribly valuable. Generally they'll go for $100, but with the 4.56s and the Detroit, the price should go up to about $300 probably.

Would anyone be intested in this truck?

Re: RE: Would anyone be intested in this truck? Just pull one of the fenders on the trailer for the trip.

    vibration at 55mph in m1008

You shouldn't be going past 55 anyway, really. I think you're getting a noise because you're at the upper end of the rpm range for the motor.

    How do you say it?

I've heard different things from different people. My friends and I have always said C-U-C-V, but I've heard others call it a CUC-V (kuk-v). How do the guys in the service say it? :)

Removing fuel tank from M1008 in the morning!

On the subject, about how many feet of rubber fuel line is there in this thing? I'd like to know so I can buy enough the first time.

    m1008 fuel pump issue

I think I'm going to just switch to an electric pump. I'm tires of dealing with this manual pump. That thing was hard enough to change. I didn't know about that rod and I'm not taking the pump out again... I still haven't tried it to see if it is working yet, though.
