I've thought about doing the same but I was mostly concerned with dirt, water, and debris since my truck sees a lot of off road time. The self contained oil supply turbo would DEFINITELY be easier. Running the intake line would be simple because you could use soft hose to do it. The other...
If your center pin is coming out like stated above, I'd buy a new axle. That can really break apart the insides of the housing and it wouldn't be worth it to rebuild. Definitely take the cover off to assess the situation.
Large images would depend if the computer has to download the whole picture file when the thread is opened or if it waits until the second click. Mangus, do you know which it is?
The local content was why I asked if you could filter linked images to only work if they're from the SS upload site. It may not be possible, but it would definitely be cool.
I found this thread due to the handy dandy auto search thingy that popped up, but I have a suggestion, so I figured I'd post in this section of the forum.
Why don't you host a separate "uploader" on the surver such as the one seen here so that people can link to pictures using [img] tags...
I'm interested in coming to look at the truck this weekend. I'm actually making a trip to Lancaster and could stop by on the way. Activate your PMs (discussed in the recent forum info threads) and send me a message.

Something will come up. It would definitely be cheaper to find a private party truck on that coast than it would be to get a GL truck (that might break down) and drive it back. It cost me almost $700 to drive back to VA from SF and that was in a car that gets 23 mpg and runs on regular...
I'd say you need to replace a TRE somewhere. To check, jack up the truck and try to turn the tires left and right and have a friend look at the joints to see if there is any movement in the joint.
If it is the ball joints, they aren't too hard to replace. You will need a hub socket for that 10 bolt, but air tools aren't needed. You'll also need a pickle for and a BFH. Once you get the knuckle off, you should take it to a shop to have the old BJs pressed out and the new ones pressed in.
It all really depends on your mechanical ability. If you're reasonably competent, you might be ok, but if you happen to break in the wrong place it can cost you more than money. I would definitely avoid trying this in the more extreme parts of the year.
