Thanks for all the advice. I figured I'd be rebuilding the alt.
Here's the next question: CUCV Electric has a "basic" rebuild kit and a "complete" rebuild kit. Any recommendations on which kit? The "complete" kit is a bit more than double the price. Will the "basic" kit get the job done or...
My Gen 1 light has always come on at start up and would go out as soon as I gave the accelerator a little juice, or if I started with half throttle it would go out immediately.
I'm sure it's unrelated, I changed the oil with my 3 year old. He wanted to work on the truck with daddy and it was...
I make bungee cords for a living, the kind people jump off of things with. Keeping that rubber from drying out, getting brittle and cracking is quite important. Silicone based lubricants are great. They don't deteriorate the rubber like petroleum based products can, but they do coat the rubber...
I registered my 1028 less than a year ago in Texas. I payed $1,500 for the truck and when I went to register it, the girl behind the counter told me to write down $500 so I wouldn't have to pay as much. I'm not sure where this valuations under 4K not accepted comes from.
Find a Throttle Valve Bracket before you start down the path of the 700r4. That's a tough part to find and without it you'll be trying to figure out how to fab one. Mess that up and you'll fry you new 700.
I'm not a transmission guy, but I glanced at the ATSG service manual for the TH400. In trouble shooting section it looks like you need to check the detent solenoid
So I'm working on rebuilding a 700r4 for my m1008. I have a 1992 K case that I pulled off a truck at a U-pull. I just pulled the pump and I'm concerned with the case. There is an opening under the level of the pump seals that shows through to the shift linkage that the manual detent spring...

Per-molded vinyl, rubber, carpet. I haven't used them, so I can't speak for quality. I watched their YouTube video of an installation. Looks pretty good.
What did you do for a hitch in the back? Is that just welded to the bumper or are you reinforcing the hitch to the frame? Pics from the underside would be awesome!
Doest this kind of get back go the issue of, "your vehicle may run but there's no power grid to pump gas"? If the power grid is down then equipment that shoots the optics (technical term?) down the fiber lines isn't functioning, power for internet modems and computers and charging cell phones...
If it's loose, just out of reach, try a shop vac. I had a friend have something similar happen but with a spark plug. He thought it was going to be a big ordeal but the repair shop sucked it out pretty darn fast.
I forgot to mention that the truck also came with a very nice and brand new tool box mounted in the bed. This alone is worth a couple hundred. The truck currently has some well worn 285/75/16 on it. The guy still had the four stock tires that came with it with full tread. He took them off...
Yeah I thought $1500 was a steal. The seller was asking $3000 for it but I used the cracked trans housing as bargaining leverage even though I knew I wanted to swap it anyway. He didn't want to mess with the trans and his wife was making him sell it. She listed it on Craigslist and he didn't...
Digging up an old thread here. I'm about to embark on the journey you took and I was just gonna follow your parts list. How did the transmission turn out? Anything you'd do different if you were doing it again?
