I have been doing some research on converting a gas powered M246 wrecker that I found, over to a LDS multifuel. I found a decent deal on the engine/tranny and he can throw in a deuce transfer air shift also.
Here is a list of things to change, anything else anyone can add?
gas tank/fuel pump...
What are the differences between the LDT/LDS engines?
What if anything will swap between the two? The LDS-2 is more powerful yes? Why?
Whats the diifference between the LDS and LDS-1a?
Looking for information on military salvage yards in the southwest. I know about Barstow truck but anyone else have info on some yards around here?
Please post up where or at least a contact #
thanks
Anyone know offhand of the weight of a dropside bed, with no troop seats?
Whats the best way to lift one if its on the ground?
I found one sitting in a field down the road from me( I drive by it everyday and just now noticed it!). I was gonna call the oil company that owns the equipment and...
Well I got my M200A1 trailer home finally( a big thanks to Hookin1 for storing it)
Objective: to make a bed long enough for my 88 Jeep Comanche. Front tire to back tire is 13' so I am planning on a 14' bed by 7'6" wide.
My first idea is to take either 6" or 8" C channel, 14' long and lay it...
When going from the 9.0 x 20 to the 11.00 x 20 tires can you reuse the tubes and flaps? or are they exclusive to each tire size? I know what the tubes are for, but what function do the flaps perform?
thanks
Wade
Anybody got 7 11.00x20 tires they want to ship to me? preferably on duece rims but just the tires are ok too. PM me your price plus shipping. I would like radials but if you've got a good set of NDT's for cheap let me know.
thanks

Just won a M200A1 trailer on GL. Its in Drexel Gardens IN(Crane) and I need it transported to or close to Aztec NM. Its got the typical 24 volt, air over hydraulic brakes and pintle hook lunette connections. GL says it weighs 2400lbs and is about 15 feet long.
Anybody help me out?
thanks
Wade
My deuce has the "run diesel only" sticker saying that the FDC has been bypassed. So I've been reading the "bypass the fdc" threads trying to figure out how to put my FDC back into operation.
From what little knowledge I have, it looks like I don't have a FDC on my truck right??
For those of you that didn't follow along with Bjorn's(Cranetruck) thread about going to California - I was gonna meet up with him yesterday over in California and convoy back over to New Mexico. Sorry we didn't get to meet and convoy.
Anyway I picked up my deuce from the guy I bought it from...
I have read alot on here and other boards about the WVO/biodiesel systems. One common thing is to use the engine coolant to heat the oil fuel. Problem - engine must run a while to heat the oil up and no cold starts on WVO/bio.
One thought bouncing around in my head is to use/fabricate a 24...
How did the military tow with a wrecker? I am talking about without the towbar. Was there some attachment to the boom the enabled the truck to pick up the front of another truck or did they just hook up to the front shackles and lift it that way?
If you read my previous posting about the M246...
There is a M811 up on GL thats close to me, but it doesn't have any pictures yet. It says a 5 ton chasis so I guess no bed? Anybody have pictures of a M811 truck?
thanks
Wade
While taking the kids to soccer practice the other day, I say what looked to be like a military truck\wrecker sitting in a field. Asked around a little and got the guys name who owned the property and trucks. So I called him up and asked him about it and he gave me the "ran when parked' story...
First of all thanks to Devin ( Djfreema) for inspecting my truck for me today and sending me the pictures. :)
Second, in the picture below, what is the fitting that is above the dipstick, next to the intake boot? the one with the wire coming out of it?
thanks
Wade
First of all, I know nothing about military trailers, haven't even seen one in person so pardon the not so smart questions.
One of the reasons I bought my deuce is to haul my soon to be rockcrawler ( 1988 Jeep Comanche truck) to and from the trails. I would like a military trailer with the...
