I'd be checking the points/condenser and check into the carb. Last 2 M1028's I've bought with the wisconsin gensets both had less than 50hrs and both needed ignition and carb overhauls before they would even start. One even needed to have a starter rebuild because it was seized from sitting...
Have you received your new rad yet? If so is it copper/brass like the original or is it aluminum with plastic tanks? I've noticed the brass/copper rads are impossible to find now. On rock auto it shows the brass/copper but in the description it says it's now plastic and aluminum. BTW that fuel...
I have a DSG kit on my 6.2 M1008. Haven't had any issues. My engine has been tweaked aswell. So time will tell what fails. Fuel has been turned up and timing bumped up. Truck is a completely different animal now. Then again it's a 5 speed now so that felt like a power gain. Night and day feel...
oh and priming procedure is identical to the factory Model 80. In the first pictures you can see a petcock in the filter head right above the white arrow on the filter collar. When you change filters, just fill it up with diesel, put a hose on the petcock and drain the air out, while you crank...
I had to alter one connection on the truck as the one connection looks like this. And the connectors on the filter mount itself were a flat style pin whilst the the 2nd truck connection is the normal pin style connector. There is only two fittings going in and out. The other ports were never...
I use a factory gm supplied FM100 that was used on the 6.5 diesel vans. It was cheaper to buy then ordering a fm100 from a dealer. Has the fuel heater, water in fuel sensor and not to mention the filters are easily bought at stores as you just get a normal fuel filter for a late model 6.5 diesel...
I believe the winch mount integrated with the brush guard is probably a bad idea. My experience with winches mounted above frame rail height is that they tend to pull the truck down while winching which loads up the front suspension just making it harder on the truck and acting as lever in a...
Had the same issue when I was reinstalling mirrors on a truck that had tow mirrors before hand. When I ordered new mirrors they showed up with those plastic insert things, I almost laughed at that. I found these . They are called jacknuts. The ones I found had a rubber plastic type coating on...
This is true haha. But I have a few 6.2s and 6.5s so the tools were a no brainer. Still can't believe how cheap these motors are. Yet the price of the whole diesel truck itself just seems to be going up and up. I couldn't give away a running 6.2 right now for 100 bucks where I live, yet it seems...
I figured the motor was fine. But I wanted a baseline so I could measure wear in the engine as life goes on. That's why I questioned the big variance. I should have gone over the gm manual first.
Maybe I should do a retest. Just reading through the 6.2 shop manual now and it says the motor should be hot. I know it was warm but it was only after a 5 min drive. I wouldn't consider that hot. Also says the lowest reading should not be less than 80% of the highest cylinder and no cylinder...
Howdy,
Just did a full compression test on one of my M1008's today. This ones my main driver every few days. The truck has 90k miles right now and gets maybe 6k miles a year. My compression results were all good but this being my first time doing a compression test on it, I had a few...
I have mine in the same spot on the pass side of the head. I installed another ported plate and put my temp sensor in. Normal driving I read 140 to 150. After a long highway haul or a hotter day. hot being more than 25 Celsius It'll be around 180 and Ive seen it go all the way up to 220 going up...
LMC stuff is junk. classic parts is a bit better but still not long lasting in my experience. Ive used a few different companies for weatherstrip on our old chevys. Best I've found so far to be almost identical to original is Fairchild automotive. Can be bought through rockauto. Any door...
thanks for the feedback guys. I never thought of the speedos being off. I do use a garmin 64st to calculate my mileage as I've never owned a squarebody with a speedo that was 100% correct. The more people give input here, it seems like no one is actually achieving this 25mpg milestone with an...
Must be exaggerations then. I do have a IP shaft seal leak when the truck is cold, it goes away after a few minutes but there's no way I'd gain 10mpg by fixing that. Every time I see people saying 20mpg or more I was starting to believe I had something wrong. I installed new bosch injectors...
