I meant to make a note of that but didn't.
The wire seems to be of a very high-quality silicone ignition wire, about 12 gauge. Considering the environment it'll be in I opted for soldering the wire to the connectors with silver-bearing solder. No room for water to get in/corrosion to start...
Thanks, 86humv, I know there IS a difference, mainly I want to know which kit (one, the other or either) will fit a '92 HMMWV. I probably didnt' make that very clear.
I can't find those details in the parts TMs.
But I'd appreciate any help you could give. I really think I'd rather blow the...
So the steering column on my Humvee M998 1992 (build date 12/1991) is broken. Thought the bolts needed tightening - place I bought it assured me it would be done before I picked it up but money had changed hands and well, I got screwed - little tab on one side is broken and the hex nuts are...
Just wanted to post a personal thanks after doing this today.
I did a cut and paste of your photos to my iPhone to reference while I was doing the job, only the last one hung me up. Took me a while to figure out the picture is from UNDERNEATH the truck (says truck on my title). I used some...
Looks good. I took a look at the mirror on Amazon and was wondering if you used the garmin suction mount (kind of hard to tell from your photos which one it is) as several other buyers complained about the suction cup not working. Looks like a fairly cheap "fix".

The "Tarheel" screwdriver antennas look appealing, but I'm not thinking of HF so much as the 2M and 70cm bands and monitoring police/fire/rescue at the lower end, that's where the SFB3512 type antennas appeal to me; same format as the 3900 series, tuned differently. Once I get that ground wire...
That's awesome. Thanks. Do you know if they ship in smaller than gallon sizes? Quarts?

Poked around a bit and found this:

I'm also a ham - extra - considering putting in a 2M rig using a stock military antenna, only problem is, most of them of the AN or AS3900 series were made for the radio frequencies used by military in the 30 to 88mHz range and aren't easily converted to 11M even for CB use. Sure, they'll work...
I looked closely at the bracket -with my reading glasses on- and saw the number"818". That's Amerex, fits the B500 can. I ordered one. Amazing what a little caffeine can do. Thanks for the help.

Having the same "issue" here. I have a First Alert extinguisher in my garage, 5lb, I think. it doesn't quite fit the military bracket. VERY tight in the clamps.
How did the Amerex 5lb work out for you?
Thanks in advance.

From the MVA website:
How do I register a vehicle as a historic vehicle? To be registered as a historic vehicle (class L), your vehicle must be a passenger vehicle, motorcycle or truck (with a GVWR of 10,000 pounds or less): be 20 calendar years old or older and must not have been substantially...
Just went through this routine with a new (to me) 1991 M998 HMMWV I bought from surplus military Depot LLC (649 Teton Dr. Lothian MD 20711).
Kevin suggested I go through a local - to him, across the street from his lot) title office, but he understood Maryland law to require inspection...
A few of you may find this interesting, amusing even, possibly depressing.
I was thinkingn about buying an antenna for my Hummvee, and the AS-3900 has very limited utility for Ham, is useless for 2M band, 70cm, (I'm a licensed ham, extra) which is what I could possibly find useful.
There IS a...
True that.
Guy I bought my humvee from today has 30-some of the units stacked in his garage (BIG garage, under his home, you could fit two deuces in there with room for spare parts), said he HAD 80. Sells them for $2,000.
Anyone know off-hand where/how one can buy an insulation "kit"?
I'm picking up a '92 HMMWV later today and there's just two pieces of insulation intact - LH/RH tunnel by driver/pax.
I've looked around on the web for a "kit" and so far am only finding bits and pieces, piecemeal, some cheaper...
Someone suggested i post here and ask if there are any HMMWV mechanics close to Nashville who could go take a look at a humvee I'm bidding on, see if it's up to seller's specs.
Feel free to contact me via email.
Thanks in advance.

I checked into Uship, got six bids (one from a regular HERE), best of 'em was $935 plus $80 for Uship.
I'm leaning towards going that route. I'll sleep on it. Thanks everyone for the suggestions.
