My MEP-003A is mounted on an M116A1 trailer and I use it like you do sometimes. Those gensets are very nice, but they are very noisy. There is a lot of mechanical noise in addition to the exhaust. If possible, try to locate it as far away from the event as possible and use long cables to...
This unit is called the shutterstat air valve. I don't know the P/N. It is possible that this could be obtained from Caterpillar. If you contact a Cat dealer, make sure you have the S/N of your engine. There are many variations of the 3116 engine.
One of mine has fallen off twice. Now, everytime I check the oil, the first thing I do is check the horns and make sure they are tight. I haven't tried Loctite, but I now plan to.
I remember from my days in the Army, that the right front tires always wore out faster than the left front on M35s, but I don't know why. Both wear out faster if you have a winch, obviously from the extra weight.
I had that problem with my right front tire on my A2. The drivers side was no problem. Someone told me that it was caused by bad shocks, which I didn't believe. However, since my shocks looked 40 years old, I decided to replace them with Monroe shocks from NAPA. Sprayed them green, installed...
Ditto on replacing the grommets on the valve stems. when I replaced mine, all leaks stopped. Make sure you torque the nut to 45-60 psi like the TM says. None of my tire leaks were from the O-rings or the CTIS, which works great. I don't use the CTIS because I run 55 psi in the tires to make...
You can use a jumper cable and run 24V directly to the starter solenoid momentarily. If the starter turns, you have eliminated the starter and solenoid.
I would be very surprised if many of them haven't been translated by other governments. M35s are everywhere. I travel globally on my job and I'm always amazed at where I see M35s still in use by military groups. I almost got run over by an M35A2 two years ago in Thailand. Just curious, but...
Welcome to Steel Soldiers and congratulations on your new truck. It looks like you got a good clean one. There is a lot of good information on SS. Start by reading the TMS.
Check the classifieds on SS first. Some people have taken out the CTIS systems and have been selling the parts. There have also been many for sale in the past on Ebay.
Did the shop test and prove that the generator head actually needs to be rewound? I would make certain that the only problem is the head before spending the money. It would be bad to pay $1,000.00 for a re-wind and find that you still have the same problem. Or, that the original problem is...
I read somewhere in a post, or perhaps someone told me, that the reason C&M sets the highway pressure maximum at 45 psi is due to the axle seals. Apparently, axle seal life is shortened at higher pressures. I also read in the TM that in extreme cold they recommend not using the CTIS until some...
I'm not sure if the A2 already has a pressure relief valve or not. The TMs should say. If not, the one designed for the A3 should work, but you would need to change fittings.
I have had minimal problems with my MEP-003A, mostly some loose wires. I have used my genset fairly often since I got it and it has proven to be very reliable. Since I have had minimal problems, I don't have a lot of experience with the MEP-003A other than preventive maintenance. In my...
There have been several posts on SS about the 60 PSI pressure limit for the A3 wheels. In addition, it is stamped on the wheels themselves as a warning. The limit is due to the O-rings and valve stem grommets. I apologize for the poor quality of the attached photo but I used my cell phone in...
