Phil and Steve, thank you both so very much. Neil Young told us that rust never sleeps. BTW, it looks like Abdullah the butcher got to the wheel lift. It's not supposed to look like that. Phil, if you run short of real estate on the trailer, I can beg of someone else to grab the wheel lift. I...
Welcome aboard. Best advice for you is two fold. Do some reading up in the CUCV forum and make darned certain that the papers are correct for the truck. A bill of sale and an SF97 in someone elses name spells trouble.
Haha, that's funny. Both are correct, 10 bolt 3/4 ton front and semi floating 14 bolt rear. What makes me chuckle is that they only relocated one perch to get it to fit, that's why it's off to one side so much. I think Doghead and Stretch were right!
Sarcasm, yeah that will help get results. You may be limited in the responses because many folks aren't really looking to saw up their truck. With that said, I have seen a 70's suburban with 40" tires and no lift. Have you clicked on any of the links at the bottom of the page?
There are spots...
Frames do have some differences. Springs are inboard and shock placement revised because the 1 tons could be ordered with dual wheels. The cab chassis axle is very narrow and the tires barely clear the springs.
Long ago I have a V3500 crew cab with a 4 speed. We used a bicycle shift lever as a hand throttle and attached it to the shifter. You could adjust the tension so that the spring would return it to idle. I used to drive with that more than the go pedal.
More specifics on axles. The 12 bolt rear was only used in half tons and was used from 69 thru 80. In 81 the half tons started getting the 10 bolt. The same 10 bolt that the M1009s got. For emission reasons (and probably a few others) the M1009 was rated as a 3/4 ton despite the fact that...
helm1008, firstly welcome to Steel Soldiers. At the menu bar near the top you click on "Forum" and scroll down to the forum you want to post in. Click that and at the top of the forum will be an area saying something like "Start New Thread" CLick that and have at it. Some forum ettiquette for...
Yes they certainly did. The Gov't (Air Force) bought many of them. I've owned 2 and wished I still had both. Kinda my personal holy grail to find one with a 6.2 (that I can afford).
Here's the skinny on all this. All 1 tons and bonus cab (crew cab) 3/4 tons have 40.5" spring perch width center to center. Everything else has the 42.5" spring perch width. Shock mounts are different as well. Going to have to move some perches Westy. LOL, ChevyC60 bought an M1008 sight...
Good friend. As directed, look up the doghead relay mod and fix that area of concern. That and insluating some of the alt wires may get you to a place where you can try to start it. You can rig a temporary glow plug manual button to try to get her lit off. If it does run then you can try to...
