There are several ppl selling the hardtops on e-gay. Seems GL had a butt load of hardtops actioned off about 3 months ago and they should be going pretty cheap. Just make sure you get the complete kit. Make sure you ASK and get the one that goes on the Deuce, a couple of lots of 5 ton (900...
Although I used a magnet to pull the pieces out the first time, I went ahead and flushed a gallon of diesel through it and let it sit for 4 hours to dry... After flushing it, I ran a rag on the inside (through PTO) and did not get anything at all. I also shot a magnet through the drain, moving...
Started to take the PTO studs out of the transmission so I could bolt the cover plate of the PTO on and had no luck double nutting, etc.. I got to thinking, if I am going to rebuild the PTO and place it in the near future, why not leave the studs in and make a thicker cover. And, I really did...
Been looking around the site for the correct U-Joints and wound up more bewildered than I started. The following was true to my 71 AM General.
The Precision 332 was used for the intermediate shaft between the tranny and transfer case. It was purchased at a HI/LO O'Reilleys auto parts store...
Sounds plausible, but when my supply lines rotted and cracked, she ran rough and never would come up to speed.....
Possibly an old and in need of replacement supply line to the fuel filters and the IP? Mine were collapsing from the inside and starving the engine.
Just thoughts...
Have noticed several posts asking how to find the frame number on the Deuce. I had my camera out this morning and decided to take these pics. The blue tape shows where the frame number is on a 1971 AM General. The location is on the drivers side. One is a closeup and the other is an overall shot...
Many Thanks for the kickbacks!
When I picked up the truck, the winch was jammed tight. There was no shear pin, I wish there had been a piece left, so I could have seen what they were using. It looks like whomever used the winch last wrapped the chain and hook around the frame and let her go. I...
Posted a tread on bits and pieces found in my tranny a while ago. Finally got warm and decided to get into the PTO on my deuce.
The following pics are of the PTO. It turns and spins freely, no grinding, weird sounds, etc.
I turned and felt the drive in the tranny and found only 1 gear that...
Thanks for the replies!
Was more or less blowing off steam last night...
I've mangles wrenches into shapes that would honour being in a museum and have gotten tired of making a wrench from a wrench... I just wanted to go and buy one that worked for $ (not$$$) and be done with it.
Looks...
Anyone know where to acquire a real thinwalled 3/4" combination wrench to use when removing the nuts off the U-Joints. I have been using a flare/tubing wrench and it really isnt getting it... The only place I have not chased down is the high dollar vans running to the mechanic shops. Is that the...
We buy this stuff by the case for each boat we have (100+) and it works great. You should be able to get this stuff at larger truck stops, marine supply houses, industrial supply houses, etc.. Below is one place I found on the internet:
Kolor Kut Water Finding Paste (H2OPASTE)
Be REAL careful what you wish for! My 16yo DAUGHTER doesn't want mommas car when she gets a new one. She wants MY deuce....and she can start, stop, shift, and steer it like a pro!
Hmmm, makes me think, I gotta keep up with the mileage to see if she has been 'taking it out' on the town when I'm...
If your going to be putting no more than 500 miles per year, I would put what ever is the cheapest of the three you are looking at and change oil and filters once a year...2cents
Welcome to SteelSoldiers Torres, and OD madness! I drive my deuce to work (Lake Charles to Houma) and everyone at the lot drools, no converts yet though...
Your in good hands with Kendelrio and Jimm1009. Have fun with the new addition to the family and in Fourchon...
Excellent...
