I've got a 12 ton bottle jack (way overkill) and a 1/2" drive impact from Northern Tool ($149.00) that takes my tires off with no issue; even those tires put on by a 3/4" impact that we have at the museum. I went and bought both sockets for the studs after I ruined the square drive socket part...
Nice looking truck, glad it drove home without issue. Looking at your tach vs. speedo do you have 11.00 x 20's on the truck or does it have the wrong adapter for the speedo? Hitting 56 mph on a 9.00 x 20 is right around 2600 rpm usually.
SgtStewart found a video from a local TV station up here. It takes a while to load. I'm the Deuce (driving in yellow shirt) behind the LMTVs and he is at the end with his M109A3. The MVs start showing up around the 5:45 mark in the video.
2009 4th of July Parade
The value is like a lot of things, to some people it may be worth a lot and others not so much. Depends on how much they are in the need of it at the time.
Bjorn,
Have you ever noticed if a certain manufacturer holds up better than another one? For example I've heard some people say that the Goodyears have a tendancy of dry-rotting the sidewalls faster than some of ther other brands.
The other advantage a deuce has over a 5 ton is (atleast here in MN)
1. No CDL required due to lower GVWR
2. No commercial insurance/licensing due to lower GVWR (don't know you can get a 5 ton as a collector or not.... I own a DEUCE!!!! :-D)
3. No DOT inspections due to lower GVWR
Theres the truth in a nutshell m16ty. There is a big difference in someone who knows have to "drive" a piece of machinery and someone who knows how to "operate" that said piece. The operator can do a heck of a lot more than the driver any day of the week.
The whole JB Weld idea was not for a permanent mount but to mount magnets on the back of the plate so that you could put them on when needed and them store them in the truck if you wanted to put the truck on display w/out plates and/or holes showing.
Magnets don't know, the license plate couldn't take it I'm sure. Or atleast it would discolor/damage it enough that a LEO might have an issue with and call it voided.
I've seen them mounted in the corners of the bumper. If you didn't want them permanetly mounted try JB Welding some powerful magnets on the back of the plates and put them on only when needed.
I made sure to shake each one of their hands and give my own thanks to them. They really enjoyed the ride, although one of them did tell me he thought my springs were welded together (in a joking manner). One of the roads on the way to parade start was very rough and as you know the Deuce...
Had the honor of hauling 11 Korean War vets and 2 Vietnam vets in my Deuce yesterday. Had Army, Navy, Marines and Air Force personnel representing as well as me for the FSMM. Also is a picture of 1 of the 2 LMTVs that showed up for the parade. Both were full of vets as well. There must have...
Keep in mind that the M26 Dragon Wagon wasn't as much of a true wrecker as described. It has winches on the back that would drag a sherman tank up on its trailer, but it had no boom like the traditional wrecker. We have a M74 that I can get some pictures of if you want.
Only thing I can say is trace the hydraulic lines as I don't know the setup. It should be down at the level of the gear drive that you saw with all the rust in it.
Is this one of the units that had a B&S motor on it to run a hydraulic pump? If so, take the hdraulic motor out of the trailer and see if it will turn. The motor could be rusted up if they "demilled" the thing and drained the oil. I'm not an expert these, just some ideas that popped up after...
