We also had a "bird dog" spotter plane as well as a Ryan five-cylinder radial engined (pre WWII?, don't know the model number) trainer flying overhead.
Great parade as always!
I went about seven hours once in a deuce. The last part was with a slipping clutch due to a leaking rear main. I was going up grade and driving by "sound", keeping the engine at the same RPM. The only problem was, I was slowing down. Limped the truck home and fixed the seal.
I will be there in "something" - don't know whether it will be my friend's CCKW, his '41 Dodge WC-1, my M35A2 with or without the M274A5 along, but we will be there. We will be near the "pin-up girl" (she's hard to miss):-D.
I'm also trying to get my dad to bring one of his jeeps.
Last year...
My driveshaft on the M1009 was OK, but the crossmember under the transmission was bowed upward and twisted so the rear was higher than the front. This caused excessive u-joint angle.
I straightened the crossmember on a hydraulic press and eventually had a new driveshaft made. Luckily, no...
Mine shifts at the same speeds. Remember about the 3.07 axle ratio. On long uphills, I manually downshift in second gear when the speed drops below 50 MPH, but I don't exceed 50 MPH in second.
The shift speeds you're experiencing are normal.
Yes, welcome and thanks for the cool photos. Where do you live on the North Coast? I used to go to school and live in Humboldt County. Back down south now, but I sure miss the Redwoods and Sea Stacks and fishing for crabs off the Trinidad pier.
Here is some information from an article I wrote for our club newsletter a few years ago. The trailer was an M416, but the bulbs should be the same:
"I did a little research at Bulb Direct - Replacement bulbs & light bulbs for your equipment and was able to come up with 12 volt bulbs that...
Guys,
Here is a 30 second long video taken last November of my friend Jim driving on a windy canyon road near Yucaipa, CA. There is no sound. I think the quality is pretty decent, especially since I was driving my M1009 Blazer at the time and trying not to run off the road.
Enjoy,
Matt
NDT is referring to the fact that the front wheels are essentially held on to the axle shaft stub with one large bolt. Early on, this bolt was not strong enough and occasionally snapped, causing much excitement. An improved bolt with better heat treating fixed this problem. These bolts are...
Eric, I would bite the bullet and rent the car trailer. Mighty Mites are quite rare and you wouldn't want to toast anything with a long, flat tow. If you must flat tow, I would take the time to remove the four short axle shafts between the differentials and the wheels. Remember that you won't...
Ditto for me on the combination pintle/ball hitch. I have towed a single axle car trailer with an M151A2 aboard. You loose the swivel feature of the military pintle hitch, but the M416 trailer I have has its own sivel. Use all grade 8 hardware to mount the combo hitch.
Karl,
Thanks for the response. I will have to do a bit of "horse trading" to get the M215 I have my eye on, but we'll see what happens. Another benefit I hadn't thought of until today - my wife could drive the M215 in an emergency. I doubt she could manage the M35A2. She drives my M1009...
Hello,
I have my eye on a GMC M215 dump truck. I have owned several M35A2's over the years and now have one parked next to my house, but I love the M211 GMC's. It was the first MV I was introduced to back in the mid '70's.
Here are a couple of general questions about these trucks:
1. What...
