Both my locking hubs had the spring in backwards so that the hubs would always be locked in gear no matter if it was selected in free or locked it was always locked.     Can a Deuce to tow a Deuce on a trailer without a CDL ? Yes.

    I bought an 12 ton equipment trailer for my deuce. On my 1st trip with it I stopped at the check station in Washington. I was asked if I was commercial, I told him no and he told me I didn't need to stop. That was at least 5 years ago. I have not stopped since loaded or not.

    80 in an M1009 too much?

    My m1009 will do 80 easily but if the road is less than perfect I wouldn't do it. The steering is quick with that short wheelbase. Pavement ruts and wind keep me at 60 to 65, besides over 60 and the mileage suffers alot.

    If it did mount between the trans and t-case bet there would be alot of problems with linkage, both drivelines, and crossmember location.

    I think they mount on the back of the transfer case to be used in 2wd. I don't see the need for it in 4wd anyway. To use it as a gear splitter seems unlikely as it must shift abruptly. For freeway overdrive it would be nice.
