    very slight rough idle

Seems to me if it was an air leak it would give us a hiccup other than just at idle, but maybe the fact that mine wants to fluxuate at freeway speeds is also a sign that the problem is getting worse and if so yours might too. Maybe the freeway accelerating glitch is a sign of air, I don't know...

    very slight rough idle

Mine is rough only at idle also. accelerates smooth and runs smooth at freeway speeds, just wants to accelerate on it own slightly at times and that came up only recently. The last symptom I added because I wondered if both things could be due to the IP. How long has yours been doing the rough...

    very slight rough idle

Mine does the same thing, a rough idle. I tried a new cdr valve... its still rough. I increased the idle alittle and its better but still rough. Mine accelerates smooth off the idle. I wondered if the IP was getting weak and shows up at idle. I've put 25k on my truck and its always been rough...

    rebuilding the starter

I would like to learn how to rebuild the starter. Is there a kit? I need a new gear. Whats the secret in getting the gear off? Thanks, Greg

    New m1009 owner, odd sound.

I had an odd vibration sound that only came up on deceleration. It wouldn't last long enough to find it, even with the hood up. I worked the throttle from under the hood and I'll be darned if it wasn't the air cleaner. Whole thing would flutter, made the oddest sound.

    jammed transfer case

I pulled the halves apart and there is ground up metal shavings everywhere in piles. I took the gears and chain off but didn't look like the way to do it in a goodcase cause needle bearings went everywhere. From there I could see a gear in shreads up in the input area but everything is still...

    rebuilding the alternator

I missed the link I wanted. part# 241103 and when I said replacement I meant it was the closest I could find. alternator pulleys, pulleys for alternators

    rebuilding the alternator

The pulley is discontinued from GM and Delco Remy. The original pulley is 77mm and the replacement is smaller at 66mm. It looks identical except smaller. I talked to an alt shop and they said the difference is acceptable, you will have a slightly higher output at idle and the max rpm of...

    rebuilding the alternator

Doghead, Thanks for the advice. Out here its cheaper too buy rebuilt or even new, paying a shop to rebuild your own costs too much. I did have my starter rebuilt once but I should have bought a new one as a new one would have been less than half the cost. I'm going to stop scrapping them or...

    rebuilding the alternator

Warthog, I think those cross references are messed up cause that isn't the right pulley. A rebuilder shop for napa can't get it either. The treasure hunt continues. If I google it I end up with the same pulley you found, but its too small. The pulley should be 77mm not 66, I have a 66 and the...

    rebuilding the alternator

I may have been fortunate when I took the front bearing out since it took a pretty good rap before it came out. Once it was out, it occured to me how easily the case might break. Do you guys use a propane torch to warm it up or penetrating oil to aid in getting it out and do you use some...

    rebuilding the alternator

Thanks guys I'll look for the hole. I got a new bearing from napa $15. I also need a new pulley. Does that come in the kit? Is there a kit part #? My bearing went bad because my pulley was worn out and I couldn't stop the squeeling belt until the belt was very tight/too tight. If I run into the...

    rebuilding the alternator

Since CUCV's wear out alternators twice as fast as your normal, regular, every day run of the mill vehicle that has one alt and one battery, I want to rebuild my own. I pulled one apart that had the gen 2 light flashing because of a bad bearing. The armature was starting to rub the field. Napa...

    jammed transfer case

Yes its bad. I pulled it out and put in another one. Went to start the truck and the starter now grinds. Did get it started but it ground on the flex plate a couple more times. Looks like I should have fixed that first. Then drove my m1009 about a 50mi round trip and the right alternator is...

    jammed transfer case

Sorry its a M1008 with the np208. The shifter is stuck at the crossover point to 4 low. I'm going to pull it out today if I can't unstick it. The truck won't move, the drive lines were disconnected so it could be towed with a rope. I've got another TC that should be good, I was wondering if...

    jammed transfer case

It feels like it is engaged in low and high at the same time. The drive lines are disconnected. I thought I would take the linkage loose next, to see if that would unbind it. I was thinking about starting the engine and putting the trans in gear, D & R but fear that might damage the trans. I...

    thinking of swapping to gas

I think its really important to run some lube in your fuel to keep your IP healthy. They weren't designed for the ULSD we have now. Even the offroad diesel is ULSD only with dye added out here. I think 2 stroke oil is the best. If the IP is going out its probably too late to help this one...

    thinking of swapping to gas

Fuel pump is down by the frame on the passenger side front of the engine.

    thinking of swapping to gas

I'm wondering if your pulling air. Could account for the surging. Filter base is a common culprit. Parking with the nose up seems to let the fuel drain back to the tank easier if there is an air leak. Turning up a steep hill sounds like it ran out of fuel. Was it hard to restart?

M35A3 from GA to WA, I need ideas.

If you think about it too much and worry about all the bad things that can happen you will likely chicken out and have it shipped. If you prepare and plan, put yourself in the best position by completely going over your truck, make the trip. If your the type of guy that worrys, you probably...
