Hey Warthog,
If these are runners and can be driven (either one or both) I could get them off base for you. Its a little to far for me in my deuce to tow either one though. It would be going out of your way also since I live northwest of there by a ways. (3 hours!!).
There are a few posts on here about the longer studs for the front. One way is to install "budcaps" If you search for that, you should find the posts I am talking about.
Follow the stop cable back to the actual valve on top of the injection pump. Right below it is an electrical shut off valve with a small knob pointed forward. That knob needs to be unscrewed (in the out position if that makes sense). If its screwed in the valve stays open. When you shut off...
Also forgot to add, that if you are gonna put a crawler in the back, it had better be under 12 foot long cause that is how long the bed is.
If you are ever up in Farmington to crawl around the glade, give me a shout and you can come over and drive my deuce and see how it is.
Like the others have said, compared to your Dodge the deuce is slow, loud and underpowered for a tow vehicle. No power steering unless you put the air assist kit on, no A/C and if you break down and can't fix it, you are looking at a very large tow bill.
But they are cool to drive around!:-P
As far as heating goes, just open the master cylinder inspection door on the floor and that will keep you warm!:-D
The only place you will probably be cold is in Flagstaff AZ when you go up the big hill and thats only like about 4-5 hours so just dress warm.
I drove a deuce from Hesperia CA to Aztec NM a few years ago. Its gonna take you a long time just to get to NM from Edwards AFB. My truck had no load what so ever and it took me almost two full days to get here. With your load, it will be even longer. I did not stop at the weight stations...
You guys are soooo funny about complaining about the wait time.
My first win for a deuce from GL was back in September of 2001 right before the 11th. Yep you guessed it, everything came to a stand still after 9/11. I did not get my truck until MARCH of 2002 - 6 months later and my title was...
There used to be a GL person on here but we all scared her off due to our constant complaining about the poor customer service. She really did not do a whole lot except refer us to customer service!
