Here in the flood prone Houston area, scores of people are getting natural gas generators after our generation collapse during the freeze we had. These generators are all the “Generac” type with the plastic house, and yup everyone plops them down at ground level in the back yard. Not wise.

My advice to you is get rid of that piggyback 12/24 converter and get a remote mounted newer version. The OEM unit catches fire. Had happened to lots of us. The alternator itself is fine.
I looked into fabrication of the turret support. My plate roll guy says rolling flat bar aluminum into the ring will cause the bar to crack. So that leaves waterjetting the ring out of thick plate and machining the remaining features. This option is very expensive. So I continue my search...
